And we wonder why I am a misanthrope.

Conversation with kidlet this morning on the way to school:

Mommy, Clara asked me if you were a brat.

Oh, weird. Why would she ask you that?

Well, she said her mommy says that people with tattoos are bad people and that my mommy has tattoos and that makes you bad.

Well, you know that's not true. And you know what?

What?

Clara's mommy is the one who is bad, because only bad people judge people on things like that and make generalizations about people and teach their children to hate based on a characteristic or physical trait.

Mommy... I think Clara's mommy is a frickin' idiot.

Me too, baby, but don't use those words at school, okay?

Okay, mommy. I love you.

Gay marriage = chaos, anarchy, and the destruction of American society.

Saw this article on gay marriage (and the California Supreme Court's recent ruling) at politico.com.

In the comments on the article, one rocket scientist argued this lovely point against gay marriage:
-----
Why do we care? For the same reason we don't want liberal school districts handing out high school diplomas to children cannot read or write...It dilutes the meaning of the diploma and the value of that paper. Simularly, if the US prints unlimited currency, the value of the dollar goes down because the rules/guidelines are no longer intact [...] So what is next? Since Americans can no longer define marriage as one man one woman...marriage is in fact destroyed. It will represent nothing.
-----
Ah, yes, of course! I remember similar redefinitions and how they destroyed institutions. Let's see... well, remember that time we re-defined African-Americans? Yeah, when we "allowed" a Black man to count as a whole human being instead of just 3/5ths of a man? It was like democratic representation suddenly dissolved into chaos and anarchy!

Oh, and that time when we let ladies vote.  Gosh, that was a tough time, wasn't it? I mean, we REDEFINED the entire concept of DEMOCRACY, and poof! Suddenly, democratic elections represented NOTHING!

I usually try to avoid reading comments on controversial issues for exactly this reason. I can't stand when people arbitrarily choose which points uphold their arguments. If you're going to create analogies, people, think them through.

Love,
The Absolutist
