There are tornado warnings here. I live in Tornado Alley, apparently. This, to me, is exciting.

I'm in south Texas (Gulf Coast region) right now, and I remember they reported on the news earlier today that parts of north Texas had tornado warnings. I felt just a smudge of jealousy. Yeah, a smudge. Thing is, the air here is going all gusty, then all still, and it's not really chilly but it's very muggy and grey, so it looks a lot like tornado weather here, as well.
Unfortunately, there is very little upside to a tornado warning. (At least with a hurricane you get to stay home and snuggle up.)
With a tornado, it's more pleading "Oh please, don't come near me!" to the wind gods.
Actually, it's even worse the farther up you go on Great Plains...I was in a shopping mall in KS once and the were big red signs every 50 or so that said "Tornado Shelter."
THAT'S hardcore.
@Jas: Ben's aunt has a tornado shelter in Sanger. We were thinking of asking her if we can live there. Times are rough.
Hahahaha . . . weather chicken.
Dammit, now I'm hungry for chicken.
Not the best beaches, but there are beaches!
South Padre Island's not a bad getaway.
Right! I'm a couple hours from South Padre, and then right on top of Padre-Padre. I'm here taking care of my parents for a little bit. I like the weird confluence of palm trees and cotton fields, but it's pretty slow and sleepy here.
South padre has nice beaches, meaning that there's not garbage washing up on them like in Galveston and there's no killer riptides that will drag your children out to sea. There aren't even public lifeguards like in California. But there also isn't much in the way of waves for surfing either. The water is also pretty warm. There are some pretty nice hotels down there now, too.
Since you're a new resident to Texas, I highly recommend you take a weekend down there sometime.
There's also some pretty good seafood down there of the Gulf Coast Variety. Hooray Shrimp!
I loooove Gulf beaches. Florida beaches > Texas beaches, but still.
Who's a new resident? Not me! I grew up here (although I lived in Chicago for seven years, and then SF for almost two). I'm just home again on a family emergency. It's given me a lot more GT! time.
This one, Gulf Coast. Portland, Rockport, North and South Padre, Galveston, Port Aransas and all that.
@ Jeeatar - I grew up in McAllen of all places. I escaped to Austin after high school. Now I'm stuck in El Paso in nursing school.

I miss exciting storm stuff. I used to live in Oklahoma, had some damn good twisters and storms.
