i had a camp counselor from england once... she tought me 3 words and their american translations:
torch - flashlight
dungarees - jeans
willie - *giggles like a schoolgirl*
she also did a FABULOUS imitation of our "american" accents; it made her sound like she was from kentucky
The media stereotypes I've seen are as follows.
21 and up guys are well dressed, well spoken and well mannered. High tea, don't clink your teacup.
20 and under are all punks, chavs and hooligans.
All the ladies are either extremely shrill or completely proper and demure, "Well I never!."
The English people I've met though, are just normal people with accents.
My bf is English. Well, not really he grew up most his life in the Bay Area, but he's still an English citizen. His parents are more English. They say things like chips instead of fries. How wacky! Actually the only stereotype I have for the English is that they tip badly when they travel abroad to the US, and I don't like that.
@Kdub - dungarees are the jeans with the bib up the front, otherwise they dont count, and i never heard of willie. :o)
@portableteejay - think all under 25's are chavs.
@Rabbit - we do tip badly, its because we dont really do it over here.
@zephron - yes, she gave us this quote: "boys think with their willies" she may have been from wales... would that make a difference?

are we all "fags", or winging bastards. you think the accent is 'cute' and how are our politicians doing if at all?
