Clifford Stoll's TED Talk
http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/237I watched a documentary about Clifford Stoll catching Russian hacker spies when I was in High School or Junior High, and it was pretty much the most amazing thing in the world to me. I don't credit Stoll for inspiring my desire to do the internets, but he definitely played a roll in making me think that this was something that was really interesting.
Watching his TED talk, I realize that he could have been talking about anything and made me want to spend my life pursuing whatever it was. I really, really, really hope that I end up like this guy one day.

I couldn't agree more with his opinions, but consumating is proof that the internet can actually bring people together in the real world.
TED always reminds me of Buffy's robotic almost-Stepfather. Does that make me more or less of a total geek loser?
That sounds a lot better than Clifford Stoll's STD Talk. THAT was tough to sit through!
ok wait check THIS out. When I first saw the name of your post I thought of that joke right away so I clicked over here to post it - but I guess I also had opened that link itself. This Bassnectar song was playing in another window (on Pandora) and I thought that his TED talk was part of the Bassnectar song. It went along with it perfectly! I was sitting there listening to it thinking "Wow, I wish I could find something as cool as this to put into one of my songs." Then after about a minute of that I realized what was going on.
BAM!! That's my next song.
Ok! I just watched Cliff Stoll. This guy is in serious need of medication to control his Aspergers. And a hair cut.
And he uses Oprah-like tricks in his spiel:
"Let's hear it for Kindergarten Teachers!"
"Bob Moog died! Let's give him a round of applause"
"I volunteer to teach! Give me some claps!"
etc.
@ben:
OFF-TOPIC!!!
What was the saturday morning cartoon show you wrote for???
HAH. I watched Squirt...
This information has blown my mind, Ben.
I stopped watching when they got a new host.
Very interesting guy. I'm about 5 minutes in. I like him.
