Gah, I hate how hard it is to copy a CD in Macs. Half the howtos out there don't work. You can do it in Disk Utility, if I remember correctly, but damned if *I* know how.

Either drag the contents to the CD in finder, or use roxio toast.

Corey Hart said, (155 days ago)

Don't you have Toast?

Quential said, (155 days ago)

uh, if you're using mac's own CD or DVD burning fuctions...

1. Stick in blank disc. Disc will show up in on desktop/in file browser

2. Put the files you want burned onto the disc/in the folder that represents the disc/drag onto disc icon etc

3. In the discs folder, in the top of the window there will be new buttons. One will be BURN DISC. (Also in File menu.) Click it. You're done (will take a while). I do believe you can also right click (or control-click) on the folder and the option will show up there.

p.s. try using "HELP" next time.

@Quental: He's not burning files to a CD. He's trying to copy an audio CD. What you are suggesting does not result in a playable CD.

Help suggests using Disk Utility, and the process described in Disk Utility's Help is not trivial. As the thread Adam linked to shows, lots of people find the procedure less than clear. It's not meant to be clear -- Apple purposely hobbled our ability to easily copy CDs, which should be as easy as a button-press.

p.s. try using "READ THE TOPIC" next time.

@mlp & corey

did you pay for toast?

adam_alligator said, (154 days ago)

2 hours of googling for free mac supported audio cd copy software = death.

i have resolved to rip my stuff to itunes, burn it, delete mp3s.

sigh..

Corey Hart said, (154 days ago)

I didn't pay for Toaster, but I don't have a mac, so that wouldn't make sense.

I could probably find it for "free".

JEEZ ADAM can we have babies like right now?

2HB said, (154 days ago)

@Adam: Rip it to a lossless format!

If you're using iTunes, go to Preferences -> Advanced -> Importing, and choose to import it using the Apple Lossless codec.

Otherwise you'll lose quality.

Even so, it's a serious inconvenience to copy a CD on a Mac, no?

Nyet, comrade. Built in support for ISO copying/duplicating/whatever == awesome. ASR and diskutil are the best.
