I'm moving to Williamsburg (Brooklyn) next month. Like right in the middle of the "cool" area. Does that make me a hipster?

Yes.

I don't know... at what point does a neighbourhood become post-hip? Williamsburg's almost a parody of a hipster neighbourhood, or at least it was when I lived on the outskirts five years ago. Everyone dresses out of Urban Outfitters and 9 out of 10 haircuts are asymmetrical.

By "cool" area do you mean the dyke-y part?

Little Bill said, (251 days ago)

where's the dyke-y part?

dykey part= park slope.

Little Bill said, (251 days ago)

that's... not... williamsburg?

Little Bill said, (251 days ago)

moreover, isn't park slope the strollers and babies part of brooklyn?

BTW: I used to live in Brooklyn! In fact, I was BORN in BROOKLYN! (Hence my accent!)

i thought we already settled this? no. ok, so yes the answer is no. i cant explain now, but living in a neighborhood does not make you a hipster. (however your moving motivation may or may not make you a hipster). i know some of the answer and i say no.

re: it not being williamsburg, that's my point. but yeah... it's strollers and lesbots

Moving to Williamsburg makes you a hipster - unless you're doing it because you really found it cheaper than living somewhere else less fashionable. One caveat: You're not a hipster if you're moving in with someone who lived there before the neighborhood became "hip" (white, gentrified, and more expensive than other parts of Brooklyn.)

My biggest motivations for moving are: Price (it was in my range), Location (proximity to the subway. 2 blocks versus the 20-25 blocks I walk now), Location (close to some of my friends), Location (proximity to VERY VERY good food.)
