I went to see Avatar on IMAX today, and I had to leave the theater because I got motion sickness from it and ended up throwing up a couple of times.

I'm going to have to go see it in the regular theater (no 3D).

What kind of wussy am I???

Was the story any good?

Jay Def said, (88 days ago)

From what I saw of it, it was a little heavy-handed, but really not as bad with that as I had expected.

oh no! i haven't seen it yet, but Shane saw it today. he LOVED it, but it almost made him feel icky too.

They also say that James Cameron is an utter psychopath and its nearly impossible to work with him.

Thanks, emm. I got a really bad headache and sick to my stomach. When I got home, I threw up a second time and then crashed out for a few hours. I feel a little better now, but still kinda have a headache. :(

Ack, sorry to hear that man. Hope you feel better soon.

Jay Def said, (88 days ago)

Thanks, man. I'm starting to feel better. I'm sure I'll be fine tomorrow.

That is a pretty common IMAX experience, unfortunately.

I saw it but NOT on IMAX and I had a totally different reaction. Most 3D movies give me a severe headache like about an hour in, but I never felt it during Avatar. I thought the 3D was very well done, very subtle.

To put it into context I also saw the alice in wonderland trailer before Avatar in 3D and my head was going gonzo just watching it. I was planning on going to rewatch this in IMAX but maybe it's too intense? Hmmm...

Jay Def said, (88 days ago)

It might be. I've never had motion sickness watching an IMAX movie before, but on that screen with how intense the 3D was, it was too much for me.

Then again, I think my blood sugar was kinda out of whack at the time, which very well might have contributed. I hadn't really eaten enough throughout the day, so I think my blood sugar was a little on the low side.

In fact, the first thing I thought of when I started to feel that bad was that my blood sugar was really low, so I went out and bought some Reeces Pieces to bring it back up (just in case).

Compared to a lot of other things, it's not that bad throwing up Reeces Pieces. :D

I'm SO GLAD you told me this! I get motion sickness from movies ALL THE TIME (sometimes chewing gum helps), but I hadn't even considered that Avatar might have filming like that. I have had soooo many people already tell me how amazing the movie was, so I figured I'd have to go see it, and now I have an excuse not to go!

valkyrie blondhaar said, (87 days ago)

Also, I'm sorry you felt ill. As someone with the same problem, I totally sympathize.

Jay Def said, (87 days ago)

@val - If you don't go to the IMAX, you may not have that problem. I'm going to try again at the normal theater next week, probably. :)

@Jay: I hope it works for you! Children of Men, Push, I Am Legend, and Paranormal Activity were all pretty hellacious for me, on a a normal-sized theater screen. Cloverfield on a TV screen was bad, but not deadly.

Jay Def said, (87 days ago)

Cloverfield in the regular theater gave me a bit of a headache, but not too bad...Children of Men, I Am Legend and Paranormal Activity didn't bug be at all in the regular theater. :)

Jay Def said, (87 days ago)

I think I saw Push on TV, and that didn't bug me either. :)

I just saw it tonight and felt a slight twinge of a headache. I really liked it. Yes, it might have cost $250 million, but I'll argue you can see it all up there on the screen.
