things you need to know: you are now in, like, computer heaven. it will pretty much NEVER FAIL YOU. i've only ever had to use the mac version of ctrl alt delete like three times in my life or something after using macs for three years.

@heh: no. i actually didn't plan the switch from pc to mac whatsoever. the way it happened was that i was in the market for a notebook (my first self-owned computer), and was pretty relaxed/naive about the whole issue of operating systems.
in the end i chose the macbook because it was attractive, and after checking out the specs it seemed a safe bet.
people crap all over aesthetics, and the people who value them, but i think it's very important to fill your space and your life with things that please the senses.

@ adam_alligator: I couldn't agree more. If your computer's going to live on your desk and get carried around with you for a few years, it might as well be beautiful. I have a macbook too.

@Adam_alligator: i just made the same switch about 2 months ago. its been delight and extremely easy. i still have my PC desktop and i've tried installing a few of the same programs on both, the best thing i can say about the mac is its just EASY. i dont know how to do a damn thing on it. and so far, i havent had to ;)

adam, i agree completely. if you have to choose between beautiful and ugly, or even just much less beautiful, why wouldn't you choose beautiful. it affects your mood, and your general contentness with life. really. it's not just a theory.
and macs are completely intuitive, much easier to use. you don't need to know anything.
