oh man, i really want a concealed weapons permit. and two golden d.e.'s.

just so i can wear one of those aweomse under the jacket holsters like detectives have in movies.

...... jaaaaaaaaaay..... i never knew.

TWIGB„ said, (262 days ago)

but did you have to USE any of them today?

if not, then it was a good day

Bustie said, (262 days ago)

Ooooh.

Skanko said, (262 days ago)

@twigby - no barkin' from the dog, no smog.

Mrs. Cakes said, (262 days ago)

I so wish I had a CWP. I have an offense on my record that makes it so I can't even OWN a gun for the next couple days, let alone carry one around with me.

Doesn't stop me from shooting though.

Jay Def said, (262 days ago)

Hahaha. No, I didn't have to use any of them today.

Actually, I haven't gone shooting in ages. I miss it.

@Tiff - I need to get my CWP renewed.

Naturelle Rivera said, (261 days ago)

YUCK. GUNZ.

erica said, (261 days ago)

How is a concealed permit different than any other gun permit? And why do you have one? I'm honestly curious and know nothing about guns.

Jay Def said, (261 days ago)

@Phro - I don't use 'em on people! Just water jugs and the little target thing I bought.

And one time, an old water cooler. Oh! And when I had an SKS which had a built-in bayonette, a friend of mine had me stick a potato on the end of it and then shoot. Hahaha.

Naturelle Rivera said, (261 days ago)

That poor, innocent potato :C

Jay Def said, (261 days ago)

@erica - A concealed weapons permit allows you to carry the gun (or any other weapon) hidden. If you don't have a CWP, you have to have your weapon obviously displayed when carrying them.

I mainly just got it, because with the CWP you don't have to fill out any paperwork when you purchase a gun. Plus, you don't have to worry about keeping your gun displayed when you driving out to target shoot.

Also, most cops will be a little more trusting of someone with a CWP if they're carrying, because you actually have to have a pretty extensive background check to get it. That's not always the case, though. A friend of mine got stopped one time, and he accidentally gave his CWP to the cop instead of his Driver's License. The cop took 2 steps back and pulled out his gun before asking if he was carrying. (He wasn't at the time.) That guy was being a douche, though. I was always told that if you have a CWP, it's best to notify the police officer that you have it and whether or not you're carrying.

JasAsian v2.0 said, (261 days ago)

I have a 12-guage pump shotgun I inherited from my grandfather. He never shot it, and neither have I.

retro.joe said, (261 days ago)

Just a note, these laws vary by state. In Wisconsin you can't get a CWP but you can carry a gun out in the open. In Vermont you don't need a CWP to carry a concealed weapon. Neither of these states require a permit to own a gun.

retro.joe said, (261 days ago)

I own:

30-06 Winchester model 70 Bolt Action
Ruger .22 Semi Auto Mark I
1892 30-40 Krag Bolt Action
.22 Iver Johnson Revolver
12 Gauge Mossberg Pump
.22 Marlin Bolt Action
.22 Winchester 1890
.54 Muzzle loading rifle

Hmm, I swear I have more.

erica said, (261 days ago)

Yeah, people can have concealed weapons here. The thing I don't get though, is that any business/church/school/health care provider/etc can very clearly state that they ban guns on the premise, and many of them do. So, if you are carrying a weapon and want to stay legal, you basically can't go anywhere except walk around outside.

Naturelle Rivera said, (261 days ago)

My mom pretends she has a gun in the attic.

But #1. We don't have a fucking attic. We have a CRAWL SPACE. And if she thinks I believe for one second that she got off her butt to put a gun in the crawl space, I'll laugh her all the way down the street.

#2. YEAH RIGHT, MOM. THAT SHIT NEVER SCARED MY BOYFRIENDS AWAY WHO ARE YOU FOOLING?

Jeepster said, (261 days ago)

I want to own a gun, and learn how to shoot. But i don't think they give guns to crazy people.

Jay Def said, (261 days ago)

retro.joe is correct. This all does vary by state. Obviously, Idaho isn't the most lenient on gun-laws but it's pretty easy to get them here.

In Idaho, the only places where guns are technically 100% banned are government institutions (schools, airports, the Capital building). Everywhere else, it's technically legal to carry. So, I wouldn't get arrested for carrying my gun to work, but they have the right to say "We don't want guns on our property" and could fire me for carrying.

JasAsian v2.0 said, (261 days ago)

yeah, in Texas we had a similar laws where anybody could own a gun, and it was up to the officer on the spot who could carry a concealed weapon and who couldn't. So basically, unless you obviously about to commit a crime, any fool could pack heat that wanted to. By introducing a licensing apparatus it actually significantly DROPPED the number of people carrying guns around here because now if you haven't had the extensive background checks required for licensing, the police are allowed to take away your guns if they find a concealed one on you. In fact, they are probably required to.

Hey, jay, does your state require a "competency" component to CWP? Here in Texas you actually have to go out to a shooting range and prove you can hit a target at like 10 feet or something. It's not hard, but there's more than a few people who'd have a hard time doing just that.

Bmanda said, (261 days ago)

Now that I live in AZ I feel like it's the law that I have one, if nothing else just to wear it unconcealed around town.

Jay Def said, (261 days ago)

BTW - .50 Desert Eagles are very satisfying to shoot for blowing up a gallon milk container filled with water. But they lose their appeal pretty quickly.

JasAsian v2.0 said, (261 days ago)

@Jay Def Specially at $2 bucks a round.

Jay Def said, (261 days ago)

@Jas - No kidding. Are you guys getting the same effect there that we are here? After Obama got elected, everyone assumed that there was going to be a huge ban/tax hike on ammunition, so people have been buying it up quick and it's nearly impossible to buy ammo for most of the common calibers.

JasAsian v2.0 said, (261 days ago)

@Jay Def Oh yeah, specially in the more red-necky parts of Texas. It's tres retarded.

But if the Republican "base" is willing to trade away the world on abortion, gay marriage and health care legislation just so they can keep winning on gun rights, that's fine by me.

Mrs. Cakes said, (261 days ago)

It's actually the same here. Ammo actually did increase in price quite a bit due to the increased demand. Luckily for Patrick's gun, he bought 1000 reloads at a gun show last year and at the rate we've been going out, he'll never be empty handed.

Chuck's gun on the other hand... mini-14s are a sonofabitch to load inexpensively.

Mrs. Cakes said, (261 days ago)

Also, I dare Obama to take away our guns. Like they say, if guns are banned, the criminals will still have them. And that includes me.

lord doggington said, (261 days ago)

iv'e thought about learning to re-load. my step grand dad has the gear and powder. i remember my crazy postman telling me a few months ago that they were going to start making ammunition with powder that becomes inert after a year or two. some of the more cop-ish elements of my family harp on me to get a cwp, but i'm content with leaving my guns at home. i can't even imagine the hysterics from my friends of both gender if i were to carry a gun into their homes or just announce on a day trip that i'm packing.

retro.joe said, (261 days ago)

@catcrap Reloading is easy, I do it. It doesn't save much in some cases. But in others it cuts costs a lot. Depends mostly on how much you shoot.

Johnny! said, (261 days ago)

What a badass.

om nom nom said, (261 days ago)

what happened to the 357?

Jay Def said, (261 days ago)

I sold the .357 for smack. ;)

Nah, but I did pawn it...it wasn't very fun to shoot because it was too lightweight. I could shoot .38 through it okay, but .357 sucked. Plus I really wanted the .40

om nom nom said, (261 days ago)

357 too lightweight? you mean the frame couldn't handle the charge?

Ethan said, (261 days ago)

I have a BB Gun.

Jay Def said, (261 days ago)

No, it just had too small of a barrel and it kicked unpleasantly when firing .357.

Jay Def said, (261 days ago)

The barrel was too short, that is.

Jay Def said, (261 days ago)

@Ethan - You know, I've never owned a BB gun.

Centropomus said, (261 days ago)

I have a retractable baton from Strangerbox's delusional stalker days. Turns out tasers are illegal in Massachusetts, except for law enforcement. Lame.

Ethan said, (261 days ago)

I never owned a BB gun, either. We never had one growing up, and my brother always complained about it. So, a few years back, my broke ass scraped some cash together and got him one. He was SO EXCITED.

Then, like a year later gave it to me because he "had nowhere to shoot it". Jerkoff. But I'm not bitter!

Ethan said, (261 days ago)

I used to want to get a CWP and get a 22 magnum. YUP, a 22 magnum. I saw it in a PUNISHER ARMORY comic, and for some reason thought it was really cool. I still do! A North American Arms Black Widow. http://www.naaminis.com/bwmm.html

Jay Def said, (261 days ago)

That does look pretty bad-ass.

om nom nom said, (261 days ago)

i want this Morini CM 162:

om nom nom said, (261 days ago)

i'd worry about blowing off appendages

Jay Def said, (261 days ago)

Actually, black powder is pretty safe...it's pretty hard to screw up.

A Better Version said, (261 days ago)

Black powder is very fun.

Also, ew Deagles.

Also, I don't own any guns, but I've shot quite a few. I plan on getting one eventually, but not for HOME DEFENSE or TO PROTECT MAH RIGHTS or anything like that. They're just fun to go out and shoot at the range now and then.

Jay Def said, (261 days ago)

@A Better Version - Exactly.

Skanko said, (261 days ago)

@ABV - HOW CAN YOU EW A DEAGLE?! ITS GORGEOUS.

Ethan said, (261 days ago)

I always wanted a black powder rifle, Jay. A PENNSYLVANIA LONG RIFLE. It'll look good with this coonskin cap.

JasAsian v2.0 said, (261 days ago)

@Jay Def yeah, a snub-nosed .357 sounds great for defense, but wouldn't be much fun to shoot. Did you try some rubber grips on it? .40 is a good gun, though. My dad let's me shoot his Sig-Saurers in .40.

Jay Def said, (261 days ago)

@Jas - Yeah, the .357 had rubber grips, it still wasn't fun. I love my .40. It's pretty bulky, but it's still fun to shoot.

om nom nom said, (261 days ago)

are wooden grips better than rubber grips on a purely functional level?

Jay Def said, (261 days ago)

I think wooden grips are just more asthetically pleasing.

retro.joe said, (261 days ago)

In a bigger caliber, a wraparound rubber grip is a life saver. I swapped out rubber grips on a .44 Magnum for wooden once and immediately regretted it. It didn't hurt but I couldn't control the recoil.

rink said, (261 days ago)

i just wanted to share that i just (like 1 minute ago) learned that a "glock" is a gun.

i thought it was short for glockenspiel!

-j. said, (261 days ago)

@rink: that would make for some very entertaining action movies.

retro.joe said, (261 days ago)

@rink Glock actually makes kitchen knives. The gun aspect of the business only started in the mid-80s.

So you can say "I used a Glock on that pig" and actually be talking about cutting up some pork tenderloins.

Johnny! said, (260 days ago)

I have a hard time thinking of a Glock as a knife without imagining it as at least a bayonet-like weapon.

Too many video games, I guess.

A Better Version said, (260 days ago)

@Skanko - Deagles are ridiculously expensive, cumbersome, and pointless across the board. The only reason anyone should ever buy one is if they feel like getting laughed at by anyone who actually wants a gun that's fireable and not completely useless in anything but an action movie.

Now, .40 and even certain .45s (such as the 1911--Jesus, what a beautiful gun to shoot) are much more practical, feasible, and (IMO) fun to shoot.
