let's talk about Shakespeare while I write my final Shakespeare essay.
I'm writing an essay on how Duke Orsino differs from the normal depictions of rulers in Shakespeare's earlier work (think Midsummer Night's Dream and Romeo and Juliet).
Do you think Orsino lets his lovesickness over Olivia get in the way of ruling his land fairly and justly? I keep waffling and I'm not sure.
Also, I'm procrastinating from actually writing the essay. Can't you tell?

Hee, yes, I adore how Shakespeare would just take other people's ideas and make something different out of them. If he did that now, he'd get sued to hell.
The ancients expected you to copy what had already been done before. To create new material would be crazy.
And would be considered crappy in comparison because you're not following form.
Whatever, I'm going to change subjects. Comparison essay, ahoy! More plays to work with, more stuff to pull out. I should have done that in the first place.
man.... measure for measure is the best play eva' ..... sex, violence, drunks, a dead pirate, a naughty nun.... good times.
The only bad part in that play was the horrible forced marriages at the end.
hey, what ya gonna do.... it was that or the duke getting a blow-jay from Escalus.... which would be an awesome ending, but i think that would be a bit hard to swallow for Elizabethan audiences.....
ha.... swallow.

If it helps, that's a common theme in Latin poetry, of which our man Shakespeare partakes regularly.
