What the nuts is the big big deal about Le Creuset? 190 smackers for a Dutch oven* is a BIT FUCKING CRAZY.

*Sorry, I mean French oven.

I love when my grandma says 'dutch oven'. All I can think about is the OTHER meaning, and she has no idea why I chuckle every time she says it.

Speaking as somebody who's family from the crazy montana farmers to the old italian immigrant grandma swears by the brand, i'll vouch for their quality. Simply put their products are (or were, the newest one I've ever cooked with is still half as old as I am) amazing, is what the deal is.

the problem is is that now cooking accessories are fashionable, and good ones even more so, so le creuset charges what that market will support. most everybody who i've ever heard raving about them never paid that much. My mothers set cost something like 180 bucks for all the essentials and my grandmother paid even less. i believe my aunt paid the most out of the family for 'em, and she didn't break the bank on her set either.

i got mine from an outlet for 75% off so it was barely worth it. the enamel isn't very resistant to searing temperatures. the only real purpose is for slow braising meats since it retains a very stable temperature and the enamel is then easier to clean than uncoated cast iron.
