How much do you tip the pizza dude?
Replies
2 bucks, i'm pretty generous with tipping 'cos i know that these people use the tips to survive (so long as they deserve it that is.)
it's funny 'cos i guess the pizza place i order from i guess knows me to be a good tipper, my mom once ordered a pizza and, being asian, tried to stiff the guy and he stood there waiting for a tip and my mom closed the door on him.
@twigby - hahahah that is hilarious. getting stiffed was always SO infuriating, but for me its because usually it was just college gets trying to be dicks and save 2bucks.
ALSO don't forget, delivery guys aren't like waiters, they usually get paid at LEAST minimum wage, (most likely more) PLUS the tips. So don't go crazy with 20% or anything like that.
i read tipthepizzaguy.com and they said the MINIMUM is 3.00. wtf! but yeah i usually tip around there anyway, as a maximum. holy poop.
@phro - thats bullshit. yeah i give 2 bucks unless its a huge order. i mean EVERWHERE in chicago charges a delivery fee ANYWAY, so fuck that. MINIMUM 3 my ass.
I always tip a bit too much, but that's only because I'm an awesome person.
It really depends on the guy and the service to be honest, BUT this is totally different than tipping a server at a restaurant for sure. 2 min 3-4 max. that's my final deciscion and im sticking to it.
I used to live in Lakeview. There's this Middle Eastern place on Broadway called Zad that is awesome. You should go and tip excessively.
Zad? Sounds like a good idea to me, I will try to make that one of my meals this weekend. Thanks man.
See, that's what I'm curious about. Does the delivery charge go straight to the driver's pocket? For some reason, I doubt it. I usually tip two bucks, and it just kinda felt like very little.
I'm not sure why I even thought of this. I haven't ordered a pizza in a long time.
While I do endorse a reasonable tip for pizza delivery, I must state that I believe in a flat 15-20% tip for on-time bike delivery. Can't understand people sometimes- I biked 25 pounds of sandwiches 6 miles into the loop and arrived about ten minutes early. 160 dollar order, 1.50 tip. I was about ready to murderize someone.
oh if a dude rides a BIKE to bring me my stuff, different story MOAR EFFORT = MOAR TIP
You think the mode of transportation should effect how much money a person gets?
@doc - depending, i mean if they are just coming like 3-4 blocks down or whatever than probably not, but yeah if the guy is biking a few MILES with a big order, i would treat that differently than a guy just hopping in his car for sure.
i use to work at a movie theater and i got tipped all the time for doing stupid shit that doesn't deserve a tip. I got tipped 5 bucks once for helping an old lady carry some popcorn. Worse thing was company policy was to NOT ACCEPT TIPS (i did anyways)
so yeah, I think Nick deserved a little mroe than a 1.50. i think big orders in general should be tipped generously.
I usually tip about $3 for a pizza, but I'll tip more for a bigger order. I like to treat the people responsible for the transport and handling of my food well.
When we deliver at my burrito place, there's a $2 fee added: one to the driver, one to the restaurant.
I always tip drivers a couple bucks, unless it comes to like 18.95 and all I have is a $20. I was always taught that if you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to order delivery and go get it yourself.
It depends on the order, and how hot the delivery guy is (kidding) but I tend to follow the $3 minimum. (On the rare occasion that I do order pizza, I am usually so high on pizza-craving hormones that I'll give the guy any amount of money to hand over the grease-pad-of-deliciosity so's that I can get on with stuffing it into my face sooner rather than later.)
But yeah, 2-3 bucks is about right.
depends if there's a delivery charge. if there is, then i just round up to the nearest $5 increment, if not, 10-15%.
15% if they're on time. 5% if it's snowing. -5% if they make me walk to the street to get it, except the time my block was cordoned off by the police.
That's a *plus* 5% if it's snowing. BEN BROWN, THE NEW SITE STILL EATS PLUS SIGNS.
yeah, here in new york most people have to get through traffic if not snow and rain. i usually stick to 20% tip on everything, including delivery.
to be honest, i've been thinking about this a lot for some reason. and most of the time if its over 15 bucks ill usually just make it an even twenty. WHY DO I KEEP TALKING ABOUT THIS!?
also, DELIVERY FEES ARE SHITTY.
i didn't get minimum wage doing delivery. i tip well on everything. 20% at least.

I was a delivery guy in college for a little while, believe me, I was just happy to get a tip at all I got stiffed so many times. Usually 2-3 bucks is fine. More than that always seemed excessive (appreciated, but excessive) to me.
