Song interpretation question, inspired by more inane iRL conversations: in "Blister in the Sun," when the lyrics go "my girlfriend, she's at the end, she's starting to cry" is she crying because the guy beats off so much he doesn't have sex with her anymore, or just because she thinks he shouldn't do that when in a relationship, period?

That doesn't even make any sense, Jaimie. Also, did you delete 4 previous comments or something?
considering i had "blister in the sun" on repeat for about a third of commute yesterday I should have an opinion on this.
@the way i get by Did you leave it in the car by mistake? Would love to hear it once you find it!
well i take the subway so if i left it i'd need to go to the lost and found...
anyways this has always bugged me about blister in the sun: is the song playing it "for laughs" (as per the jumpy acoustic guitar and subject matter) or is this serious and the music is a juxtaposition of the sad situation (fairly evident from the vocal performance.)
I actually have a connection to Gano. I should get you your answer direct from the source.
Bookmarking because I've always wondered.
I always thought it was because he was masturbating while she was present.
I thought she was upset because he's thinking of all those other women he passes on the street.
@Centropomus Hmmm, that would make sense. That would go towards "excessive" I guess, at least if he's so non-discrete that she's aware of it, and presumably flying solo instead of with her...

We were trying to figure out if it's a song about EXCESSIVE masturbation, or fairly normal masturbation. And girls can be weird about that sort of thing, so I was saying nothing in that song implies for sure that she isn't just overreacting. I mean, she may well not be overreacting, but it isn't clear.
