So, Ben Brown's here. Jesse's here. Who is in the NTSH? And why are peeps going there? Will it split us into rival internet squadrons? Should I have just posted this on help.com, and hoped that someone was an expert on post-social-networking internet diaspora?

Lemme explain. When the first news of consumating's demise broke a collective of people formed to write a replacement. It was a mess. No one would do anything but fight and squabble. I got tired of that and wrote the first draft of what was then called "Newsumating" (this was September, I think). I didn't have anywhere to host it and it was extremely rough around the edges. Crimson found me a host and did a little development while I was going some changes in my real life (new job, moving, etc.). We are actively developing the source code to theNTSH.
We've been develop this for quite a while and didn't want to just give up on it for two reasons 1) we've put alot of work into it, 2) while GTI is good, it is fundamentally different from consumating's concept and feature set, which was a little bit of magic, honestly.
I don't see it as competition, truthfully. Evidence of this is that I'm here and participate. Ben is on theNTSH (although not very active). It is just two different websites that happen to have the same community of users. I'm sure some people will choose, but most people on theNTSH are active on both sites.
Yeah, I don't see it as competition. I see it as awesome. This way, we can both grow to 10,000 users and not have sucky sites.
I find theNTSH to be much more soothing and consu like. GTI is too much eye candy, and not enough flow. I'm on both though, currently. I don't see any reason not to be, for the moment.
theNTSH will catch on as soon as they get a ranking system so people can obsess over thumbs again.
I also think that this place is going to get too crowded soon with everyone posting anything and everything they want and it all showing up on the main page. the one topic at a time thing that consu had kept things more relaxed and I think that's what they're trying to continue.
neat. my anxious phrasing of the question was meant as a joke. i'm also signed up for both, and i agree that ntsh has a more soothing visual aspect. in fact, they may just be the perfect complements. sometimes you want soothing, sometimes you want frantic.
there's a suggestion - get together and make GTI like the city and ntsh like the beach, and we can all migrate back and forth as our emotionallectual seasons change.
machined - the rationale behind the pic is "i'm tired of just anybody being able to look at my face whenever they want." i also keep my hair covered IRL.
the question was simply: is that picture cool-looking or lame-looking?
@mordant - thentsh.com - it stands for nothing to see here pronounced like niche

Also is my profile pic kewl or lame?
