Imagine how awkward it would be if you had to reboot your date in the middle of a dinner party.
Seriously, though, yes. Frightening. I find the whole idea really sad.
@acidflowers: I can only imagine that they'll all look painfully hot. damn robots.
p.s. nice screen name :)
@ansonia: haha! i can say one thing - i'm certainly not going to ever buy one that runs on a microsoft OS! it scares me enough that some people's cars are running on microsoft.
talking of which, what's apple going to brand their product in this brave new market?
Bah. This dude's answer to every objection about the robot thing is that 'they'll be programed to do what you want'
And people don't know enough about what they want for any program to satisfy that.
Some people's cars run on Microsoft? That settles it, I'm not getting a driver's license.
I'd expect Apple to come out with the iFriend (for those in the market for a platonic-type robot), the iGuy (boyfriend substitutes), the iDame (self-explanatory), and the iDame Air (for those who like their girlfriends really skinny.)
My brother in law told me this weekend that all relationships are like that. We were discussing life like dolls. And he said that we all create what we want out of other people. He said my boyfriend is probably not real. What do you think?
actually, am i too open-minded? my friend told me about this, and i immediately thought these only interested lonely, mentally-ill people. but then i watched this documentary (can't remember the name of it...) that featured 4 people in relationships -- oh wait, and these aren't even robots! these are just dolls at this point -- and i started thinking about my friends who thought consumating was some weird cult and it was "not real!" and i was like maybe in some ways i have RealFriends and organic friends and it was hard for me to say for certain that there was something wrong with these men's relationships with their dolls. of course, i know there are a host of differences between a doll and communicating with actual humans via what some consider an "alternative" "artificial" medium, nonetheless, it just made me think.
I dont know some people remind me of robots, I mean shit look at all those idiots that go to Holister and AF to pay for something that has about as much value as a bums pubes.. Market research is proof that we are one step closer to being the perfect robot!
Never mind the robots, seems like those Australians came up with another way to find love: their family members....
