I plan on being selective about who I add to my team. It's not like I need a big army because we're going to go to internet war or anything here. What are your thoughts behind who you add and why?

well, assuming the team functions get working at some point, it may mean that we can lock our conversations down to only those on our team. no one else will see them or be able to post. at least that's what i think ben was getting at. i hope it is, anyway. if that's the case, i want my team to not necessarily just be my e-friends, but be people who actually have something to say as well. this may lead to some moments of "wtf, who is ethan and why is he adding me?", but that'll just mean i noticed you and thought you'd have something to add. mostly, i've just added people who have added me up until now, but i enjoy those people, anyway.

Yeah but why would you want to close your circle? I want everyone to be able to read what I put out there and I think it's nice to be able to do the same.

at the moment, i agree with you. when a lot of the old guard of consumating comes yonder, or this place potentially grows a lot, i'm going to have to be honest and say that i don't necessarily want to see everyone's posts. there's nothing saying your team has to stay that way forever. i find new people i like pretty often. just today i found you here, and Tim, and thought, "oh, i like them."

for things like links and random photos or topics, sure, everybody in the pool, but if i want to actually have a discussion, i'd rather weed out what i think i don't want to hear. yes, i know that occasionally i'm going to miss an opinion that may have been grrrrrrrrrreat, but that's how i roll. i tend to lean more towards public than not. it's just nice to have the option.

I've just added people who've made interesting posts or comments. So that I can have a better chance of catching those users' interesting posts or comments in the future.

I thought teams were just a way of filtering out a certain level of noise from the public stream. No, no. More accurately, boosting the signal strength of people I've enjoyed interacting with. This'll be more important when the site gets bigger, when the public stream becomes a mighty river.

This site is like a microcosm of the web at large. Teams are an RSS reader.

As far as lockouts go, I dunno, I'm not worried about that. I think teams will tend to clump together without any enforcing mechanism, the way water beads on a car's hood.
