Theory # 17 : Average looking dudes who dress well become at least 33% hotter
Replies
haha OK. well i'm going to a party tomorrow night in new york. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?!
@sosane - that says ALOT about girls. while my roommate and i's tastes in women vary greatly, we always agree that the shoes say A LOT about a woman.
All girls do the "look at dude, then look at his shoes" thing since we were in junior high. It's something we ~do not have to discuss~
hahahah i really love when a girl appreciates my amazing sneakers. it lets me know i should keep talking to her.
aw fuck i wear chucks or my velcro white royal elastics usually
that revelas to everyone that i'm a BUM
@sex!death!robots!dinosaurs!vikings! - yes. agreed. but my roommate HATES them. HATES cons so much he wont talk to a girl wearing them. no matter how cute they are. he's insane.
it does show some commitment and maturity.
that said, STRIPED SHIRTS are the new uniform for guys who want to appear committed to looking good, but don't actually care at all.
Guys who have more than just the tshirt and jeans look are great. I appreciate men who will vary their looks because I do.
LAME at people who hate converse because honestly converse are the SAFE CHOICE SNEAK for everyone. TRUST
Also dudes, don't wear flip flops. I am okay with at the beach and pool, but some girls won't allow them AT ALL.
@pepper - thats why i asked that. the whole nice jeans and a blue/white/striped button down is so EASY. it requires no creativity or style at all. and thats why i rally against it. but the ladies seem to fall for it every time.
@al - any dude who wears flipflops with jeans should be beaten. intensely.
Frankly, had I the money for it, I'd just let someone else pick my wardrobe. I've neither the taste nor the commitment. And everything I own ends up being black, gray or dark blue.
boys in flip flops are dumb. unless they're like hardcore like awesome flip flops. not the $3 walmart ones that girls wear.
(i have a pair. I DIDNT BUY THEM AT WALMART OK I STOLE THEM FROM A ROOMMATE.)
Is that it? Am I wearing the wrong shoes? I've been wearing these kinds of kicks for like a decade now. Is it time to move up in the footwear world?
Oh bother the hearts html. I love Converse. They ARE safe for everyone. I'm wearing red hi-tops right now. I like to pretend I'm a cartoon character.
@angus - thats the one think i might not ever do. i love finding my own shit. no matter how much people think i just throw on a pair of jeans and any tshirt or hoodie. i do not.
@phro - my sneaks of choice right now are limited edition MILLI VANILLI EDITION NIKE SB DUNKS. THEY ARE RED AND AMAZING.
Speaking of shoes I just got some more FREE BLOG SHOES. They are wild. Lemme show u
@al - those look like they are full of paaaaain.
@phro - i dont think i owned a pair of nikes btw the ages of 12 and 20. but i can't resist an awesome pair of lowtop dunks. they are lovely. http://www.sneakerhunt.com/pics/dec06/milli-vanilli-dunk-sb-3.jpg
JUBILEE WAS MAKING FUN OF THESE SHOES AGAIN TODAY http://www.ninewest.com/Therockett/2978817,default,pd.html?cgid=1039
I still think those can be rocked depending on the outfit. i still love them. THEYRE DOWN TO $50.
Actually they are quite comfy! The wedge heel is a comfy choice for ladies who need a lil lift. 5'2 I wanna dance witchu
Those are very MIAMI or HOLLYWOOD
you need to have the kind of bohemian look down to werk those in my opinion. Lots of bangles
marie -- well i am Miami so its cool. I LIKE THEM AND I DON'T KNOW WHY. When I first saw them months and months ago I thought they were hideous but the more you stare at them, the cuter they become.
SO WEIRD.
those shoes are awful celisse. AWFUL.
i cannot support them.
@skanko: a well-fitting button-down shirt is always nice, but a pattern a bit outside the box shows that you're paying attention and willing to step outside a little.
you can also rock a nice jacket, some well-fitting (and in good condition) jeans.
i'm never opposed to a man who's a little dandy. i find that because my style is so purposeful it's attractive to me to find someone similar.
I enjoy boys in ties. I enjoy a tie. Also collared shirts. Sweaters. Etc.
MOSTLY I WOULD LIKE A TA. PLEASE.
hrm. so im picking up on the wearing nice button downs and sweaters and shit. but i look silly like that :-/ and its totally not me.
its funny cos jubi sent the link to me and was like "i bet you'll like them cos you're WEIRD."
AND I HAD LINKED TO THEM ON HERE AGES AND AGES AGO COS I WAS *~*~~* IN LOVE *~*~*~*
You wanna talk shoes, let's talk about these babies:

In black, dur.
ok...I don't really like those shoes but I am open minded and believe things can be worn if you know how to WERK IT.
except ..crocs are only allowed for gardening/car wash/nurses
uggs are only allowed in the snow and can only be black. my style icon wore black ones and i forgive her. her feets were cold.
Don't take this the wrong way, I love ho shoes, but those are V. Expensive HO SHOES
Black boots with da fur are the only acceptable ones. Especially if they are crocheted.
~~special announcement~~
someone found me the ANNA movie i have been looking for. CARLO AND WILL YOU FAILED ME
but its a dvd to buy and it has no subtitles so that half sucks
@johnny: ?
@skanko: if it's not you REALLY TRULY, don't bother. it could be you in the future, but you need to find style that's yours. there are plenty of men who don't dress in that manner but still manage to look put together.
@jubles: those shoes are pretty boring looking to me, except for that STABBING heel.
@a.lover: yeah, sometimes things can be WERKED that are unlikely, but those shoes are pretty awful.
@peppar - i guess the problem is i dont like looking like everyone else does. and its damn difficult to find stuff like that that is different and awesome. but the average person sees jeans and a tshirt and if they dont know about the certain brands or whatever they just see it as not trying.
SHUSH ABOUT THE AWFUL SHOES I LOVE THEM I WILL WEAR THEM WITH LEGGINGS AS PANTS AND SOMETHING PAISLEY
i am kidding
I'm gonna be one of those cute girls who ONLY wears cute flats all day every day. It's gonna rule.
LIKE THESE I LOVE THESE I DONT KNOW WHY http://www.dsw.com/dsw_shoes/catalog/product.jsp?index=23&category=cat20068&prodId=179559&brand
Theyre like little sweaters for my feets.
ahaah I DONT CARE YOU GUYS ARE JERKS I'M TAKIN MY BALL N GOIN HOME
SORRY JUBI they are just too normal HO shoe looking to even care about YSL. YOU BRAND WHORE
if you guys ever meet me and conspire to give me a makeover i will stab you
Aww, I dig the stripey swetaer flats. Not the sandal boots though. I saw someone wearing sandal boots the other day and they kind of horrified me.
ive never actually seen anyone wear those creepy sandal boots. i want to see them ON A FOOT. i need to stop staring at them i'm gonna take a pair of scissors to my shoes in a second
well, I meant brutally honest, but I guess honesty isn't much of a factor.
whatever happened to black and white saddle shoes? i mean, do you need anything else?
Here are cute flats in various colors and on clearance. adorable iw/ skinny jeans and tights and skirts
SRB- I am considering them because of ALICE SWEET ALICE but seriously do you guys think I dress too much like Im' a virgin french devil worshiping school girl already?
I mean, I have been sporting less CLEAV lately, although it is ~winter~. THOUGHTS?
johnny you dress like you're 20, and you are so that's fine.
you also dress like a skater, and you are, so that's fine as well.
someday you will either be too old and not a skater to dress like that, or you will be old but still a skater so it will still be acceptable.
really it's only acceptable if you're a professional skater though, once you're past say, 24.
then you have to start thinking about the image you want to project to the world. are you still a young, care-free slacker? because that's what people see when they see skaters.
you don't have to wear a suit, but there comes a time when your jeans need to fit at the very least.
@Agent Lover: I almost bought those in black. Virgin french devil worshiping schoolgirls have like the bestest style.
where can i get cheap saddle shoes. maybe i can score some free ones
@jaydef: not true! there are many ways for men to look attractive. it's hard as your body changes because you don't want to buy new clothes everytime you drop 15 pounds, but then your clothes don't quite fit right.
trying is half of it. wearing clothes that are reasonably well-fitting and in good condition is more than a lot of guys do.
i bought my saddle shoes online so long ago i don't even know. i need new ones though, they are BEAT.
@Agent, i never knew they were a thing until i was in college. i love all the baggage they come with and implications and such.
also, i cannot speak for all guys, but in my estimation you are exactly the right amount of virgin french devil worshiping school girl.
NOT TIGHT that's gross. just properly fitting.
i would also say lose the tshirts (exceptions, obvs) probably. there's nothing wrong with a nice button down shirt. or a shirt/sweater combo.
or a nice shirt and a jacket.
like i said though, you're young, you're good for now.
unless you want to be known as that guy with the outfits.
I just meant that I have such a hard time determining what would be stylish.
wtf am i doing in the girls shoe convo anyhow? look i'm gonna go watch the game and try to salvage what little remains of my masculinity.
@Brad - Might want to have a few beers with that, just in case.
I really need a haircut. I'm probably going to get one when I get paid next week.
@johnny, yeah beers...i need sumptin to put a little hair on my nipples.
I'm not in love with the sweater flats, but I think they're quite cute... I actually am more "meh" on the saddle-shoe ones.
And my sister is one of those girls who just wears cute flats every day with skirts or jeans. Or boots with skirts. I have no idea how that's relevant.
I've been wearing my all black TargetversionofKeds and the cheap canvas maryjanes with the Aqua Teen and Wrestling Pickle buttons on the straps because Pita chewed the buckle to pieces pretty much every day lately.
THANK YOU, TIFF.
all hotel people dress the same. even when we're not in the hotel. The men ALWAYS wear nice slacks and shirts and shiny shoes everywhere they go. and the ladies always wear cute blouses or fitted jackets with nice slacks with either skinny belts, or really huge fun belts, or cute skirts. and flats all the time. flats flats flats. Because we do not sit down if we are in the hotel.
I'm assuming you saddle shoe ladies have already drooled over these:
http://zeta.zappos.com/product/7518122/color/247
Also, $900 for some freaking bows? FAIL.
@mace- i'm not a fan of brown, but those are cute. they're VERY you i think.
i was forced to wear stupid loafer-y saddle-shoe-y types of shoes in middle school and i hated. I cannot count on two hands AND feets the amount of detentions I got for breaking dress code just cos of MY SHOES.
H55 - I always love your icon because you are in a tie already. What's in the bottom of the icon? Hopefully a nice flat front black slacks and good shoes.
That night? Either black or gray flat fronts and black shoes. Only thing I would wear with that shirt and tie combo.
yes, there's nothing wrong at all with the tie/shirt/slacks combo.
classic!
But right now it is kind of a dark pink shirt, muted red tie with white specks, and khakis.
one of my managers at HELL FOREST (my old hotel) used to constantly wear khakis with A PINK WAYABERA.
He was the whitest fool ever. why?
lol
just as long as you're not a KHAKI DWELLER because there is no help for that.
This is almost as funny as artschooled getting split by the creepy myspace guy.
I love you, H55.
@pepper: dear lord no. not since high school.
@jude: wow. when the hell did I start getting attention?
When you donned that suit and tie.
What can I say? I'm attracted to businessmen. And scurvymen.
33% hotter, as they say.
@jude: of that 33%, I need all the help I can get.
@pepper: I don't think I've ever been called dapper before.
@agent: wow. and to think - the #2 piece of advice I got on my online dating profile was "take down the pic of you with a tie. nobody wants to see that."
Yo, can someone catch me up and tell me what I should be wearing? I mostly wear jeans out, with a sweater and a hoodie and my wool coat since it's cold now. My shoes are either Martens or the same pair of Vans I have had for about 5 years where the left lace is black and the right is white and latticelaced. I wear flip flops but they're Vans, too, and checkboard brown and cream and I think classy, and it's only when it's way fucking hot outside.
AM I DOING OKAY.
ethan you are clearly an exception to all the rules above because you live in a cottage and because i said so.
omg how did i miss all the good parts of this conversation. fuckin' A. now i want to talk about shoes.

but doesnt everyone's definition of "well" differ?
