NEWS ALERT: Netflix Streaming Movies now work on the MAC!
Replies
i mean this only matters if you dont have a pc, or an xbox 360 or if you don't live in canada.
Sorry Twigby.
@des - it would have made me even MORE happy a few months ago, b/c now i can watch on my xbox straight to the tv. but its still really convenient.
I've been using my Roku box to stream them to my TV for awhile now, but this is good news as well. Now if only they will add Dolby Digital soundtracks and HD.
@Matthew - Really? I was on there the other day getting movies for my 360, and I thought it was still saying it wasn't available for Mac.
@jay and soulcamp - I'm actually kinda happy b/c i wasnt very pleased with the resolution on the xbox streaming. it was much better when i had my pc plugged into my tv but thats a huge pain int he ass. now i can do it with my laptop and itll be better.
@matthew - CHEATER. i just got the email tonight. and i tried to do it yesterday and it wouldnt work. HOW DO yOU GET SPECIAL TREATMENT? I WANT TO GET IN ON THIS.
I just tested it and it SUCKS on my 30" display, as do all Flash-based streaming video. It does not utilize hardware acceleration when scaling to 2560 x 1600. :-(
@soulcamp - its not GOOD on my 42' plasma, but odds of it being better than it is from the xbox are high.
My Roku works GREAT on my 65", passing through my Faroudja. I'm hoping it looks as good when piped through TiVo.
hrm i might have to invest once you know, i'm back in the world of the gainfully employed. although my internet is slow as shit. F-Comcast.
Maybe it's because I have a shitty old school tv, but it works great from 360 for me.
@jay - it WORKS great but it looks grainy and lame.
DEAR NETFLIX,
MAKE WITH THE HD STREAMING ALREADY.
LOVE,
Craig.
i've known about this for a month as well, but when I try to do it, I'm told I don't have a pc and can't watch movies instantly.
i mean, netflix took the time to send me an e-mail to say "hey mac owner- check this out" and then they dog me.
not cool.
yeah netflix JUST sent me that email. last night. so i'm guessing it should work
@dudette- i love that show now. i feel like maybe i should catch up on EVERY episode.
Oh, that's probably why I didn't see it. My Netflix is tied to an email account I rarely use.
ahhh yeah i got the email right when i posted that last night. i haven't tested it though. i'm gonna try that now.
Tip for Macsters: You can use the built-in zoom to increase the size of a movie without slowing it down like clicking fullscreen does. The settings for zoom can be found in the Mouse & Keyboard Shortcuts control panels (the default is cntl-scroll wheel). I have been using this for years on YouTube and Hulu, because YouTube videos look like postage stamps on my 30" display. The only problem is you have to keep moving the mouse every so often to prevent the screen from going to sleep (or you could disable it, I suppose).

this makes me very happy.
