In this topic we discuss Left 4 Dead

i still want to get an all GTI game going (on steam, you console loving ludites), sadly fallingstar is never on anymore
I would love to join in one, but I need to find my headset first.
oh yeah playing this game without a headset or mic is a little fruitless
If I were to play, I would probably make everyone appreciate twigby's skills more.
Oh, I beat dead air the other night. There are a couple of shortcuts that make it pretty easy. Easier than No Mercy, at least.
@corey i think i just need to be more patient is all, i've been weened on too much quake and doom, I THINK I'M GETTING BETTER THOUGH
No Mercy isn't so bad, but that rooftop is a pain in the ass if even one person isn't in sync with the group.
And I just realized, in big battles, it's always the smoker that fucks you over.
@twigby: At least you pay attention to what's happening to your other team mates. I haven't really seen you wander off on your own, either.
When I was playing through Dear Air, this one guy kept running off on his own. Granted, he had the most zombie kills pretty much every time, but he also had like 3 or 4 more deaths than the rest of us.
i've only played death toll and dead air a little, not enough to really make a judgement
no mercy is pretty much all roof, the rest of it a competent team can get by but that roof is killer
And speaking of the stats, I wish they'd show the stuff that I find important: special zombie kills/assists/etc. The normal zombie kills don't really matter.
Damage to the Tank/Witch is cool and all, but it's mostly being in the right place at the right time.
I haven't played death toll at all, I don't think.
I've played through blood harvest in versus, though.
And some other guys and I DID beat no mercy on expert, but only one guy got to the chopper, so I think he's the only one that got the achievement.
Next time I play No Mercy, I'm going to keep shouting "GET TO DA CHOPPAH!"
yeah normal zombie kills can mean anything
damage taken to me is probably the main stat i care about in terms of gauging how well your doing though with FF it's a little iffy. I was doing a 0 on dead air the other day till my teammate point blaked me with the hunting rifle.
I always ALWAYS take the most damage. Half the time it's my fault for running in front of gun fire.
i also wish the weapon balance was a little better, i kind of find the tier 2 shot gun underwhelming and the rifle only really good when you have teammates willing to cover you. there's almost 0 incentive to not have a team of 4 assault rifles.
oh yeah this game was made to have ff on, that said, it sucks when you have grifers/general tards
@twigby: The shotgun is best for close range: narrow hallways inside of buildings and sewers. You can kill like 5+ zombies with one shot. They don't call it a street sweeper for nothing!
The rifle... can be used anywhere, really. But this is only because the melee attack is so good. Obviously, it's best for wide open areas where you might want to clear about a bunch of guys from a distance.
The assault rifle is a compromise between the two. I find that I run out of ammo with it much too quickly.
my problem with the shotgun is reload time especially when the horde comes though i've since learned that the melee bash is pretty fucking effective
I tend to not shoot at all when the horde comes, anyways. It's kind of a waste of ammo if you're in a good spot.
yah too many people use the "good" weapons way too much, playing with good people i've learned that you can get past good chunks of the game using bash/double pistols fairly effortlessly and conserve your ammo for shit like tanks and hordes and such.
And then there's the people who throw the nades/tovs at the wrong times(me, somewhat often).
It's like... *PIPE BOMB*
doot...doot...doot doot doot BOOM.
One zombie down. woo!
Or it's like... *MOLOTOV*
*crackle crackle* OUCH OUCH
*THE SURVIVORS HAVE BEEN OVERWHELMED*
i was playing with my cousin and his friends first time on no mercy, during the elevator horde we stood in front of the elevator doors to fight them off which ended up with me throwing a desperation tov that burned us all and comments of "oh man worst tov ever"
I just got to play last night and liked it a lot.
But I'm a console cretin, so I won't be able to join you.
I've been avoiding playing online with random weirdos. Because they're almost always random and weird.
Almost every single game I've played has been spoiled by people lobbing molotovs at the witch as soon as they see her. Fuck you, achievement whores.
My laptop can only keep up with Team Fortress 2 with the detail turned all the way down and I still have my suspicions about lag at times. Will I be able to handle Left 4 Dead? It looks awesome.
@jas: It runs on the same engine as TF2, I believe, so it should handle similarly. You might run into issues with lag due to horde-mobs. There tends to be a lot of bodies moving at any given moment.
the only hefty requirement for Left 4 dead is the processor, probably because of the aforementioned number of zombies
everything else is pretty close to your typical source game, re. quite low

I'm pretty fucking horrible at the game, not terrible to the point where you wouldn't want to play with me but in all honesty zombies usually end up beating on me like a hobo beats his dick after find the sears catalog bra section. part of it is my tendency to wander off and tryng to "flank" zombies because crouching and shootng as a team eventually bores my ADD self.
corey is pretty fun to play with, he comes up with "strategies" and shit
