Hey, crafty people: How difficult would it be for a sewing-novice to remove the lettering on this sweatshirt?

I can't rate difficulty but it would be pretty darn tedious

i do that all the time, and i'm not particularly crafty.  just go at it with a little pair of pointy scissors!  snip and pull, snip and pull.

there might be some fuzz left over, but it'll go away.

I won't screw up this sweatshirt, will I?

seam ripper

Yeah, what The Management sed.

What is a stitch remover and how expensive is it? And, yes, this is a very comfy sweatshirt. Mostly, I like the overall design of it, too, but I had advertising on my clothing.

And I thought seam rippers were for, like, jeans.

That is a seam ripper. You can buy one for less than $1 at a walmart. That is all you need.

And they are used for everything, not just jeans. they're basically an extended ctrl+z for sewing.

THANKS GUYS. I was planning on going to Target tomorrow anyway!

Oh, hey, last question: If I use the seam ripper to pull off the letters, is it going to look horrible? I mean, will you be able to tell?

Carlocakes said, (36 days ago)

You'll be able to tell, yes, but it wouldn't look TOO terrible.

The longer a stitch has been in place the longer the fabric will hold the hole left by the thread. After a few wearings and a few washings, the fabric should stretch, bend, and absorb the holes where the thread was.

Also when using a stitch remover, be careful with the fabric as not to tear or stress it. Let the sharpened edge of the remover to do all of the work.

If you're not sure of the outcome, you could test it on a smaller area first. Maybe the inside "D" shape of the "R".

Corey Hart said, (36 days ago)

Depending on how long the letters have been there, the fabric below them might be significantly brighter/less faded than the fabric around them.

Thanks so much, y'all! Nothing should be faded, since this sweatshirt is new. I'll pick up a seam ripper sometime soon.
