I wish I could help, but I have only submitted completed papers to conferences.

I have! It was pretty easy. I just pretended I was summarizing my paper for my professor. I also had my prof look it over before I sent it in. Mostly I'd just say to keep it as clear and consise as possible, and focus on selling the idea more than say, fancy terminology.

(It, um, then turned out he was on the conference committee, so I kinda felt like I got in on favoritism or something...)

Yeah, just propose something reasonable and plausible if you haven't written it and hope for the best.

Are you proposing an at-large paper or is there a panel that someone is proposing?

http://projectionconference.wordpress.com/2008/09/17/hello-world/#more-1 this is the conference. the paper is already written. but obviously it's about now turning said paper into one that fits this conference, which I don't think will be too hard. But I just feel so silly summarizing a book that most people probably have NO familiarity with. Maybe they'd use google.

Unfamiliarity or novelty is the spice of academia!

Just make sure it's clear why you think your paper fits under that rubric, although I find the allusion to Derrida a bit heavy-handed.

Then again I'm theory-averse.

@OMM - Thankfully there's no Derrida in my paper. It actually focuses more on Audre Lorde's use of the erotic and sexual agency historically and how it is portrayed in the novel and therefore a projection of the past. :O lol if only they would take that one line.

The thing is so broad I don't see why not.

Bullshit is the first weapon in the arsenal of a hopeful academic b/c you got to build up the CV so you gotta make stuff fit.

But your paper sounds completely plausible.

@OMM - Yea, I'm doing this to beef up my CV for the perfect job I'm applying for.
