i'm looking for a size 14, white, cap sleeve, floor length, sheath dress with a sweetheart, scoop, or straight neckline. empire or dropped waist. no strapless. no spaghetti straps. no halters.

@hoyden - No. I'm not exactly sure what it is, other than that they often have lots of hoity toity clothes at deep discounts. Maybe it's an NYC thing? I have no clue.

filene's is all over nyc, yeah.
i think the nearest equivalent on the west coast is ross but it's nowhere near as good.

Do NOT go to David's Bridal. It's sweatshop labor, and horrible materials. I'd recommend looking up Bridesmaid's dresses, and then see if they can make it in white.

@sarah: yeh i hate david's bridal. and they rack up the prices on you and before you know it, you're paying way more than you were expecting. also, i've been checking out the bridal line at jcrew.com but some, if not all, of that is online/catalog only. so i'd have to purchase one before i could even try it on.

Do you really care if you own it? There are a few places in Atlanta that rent them... and honestly, I didn't even look at mine for five years, and then just gave it away..
But yea.. ebay is good for the cheaps.

it might be easier to get something strapless or thin strapped and wear a little bolero.
don't write off things that don't fit your specs exactly- you might be surprised what you end up feeling best in.
Do you have access to a Filene's Basement?
