I need to buy a moderately priced couch or sofa. I'd prefer it to be a modern design. I haven't found anything I love yet. Give me suggestions, please. No IKEA. I don't like any of theirs.

I got something decent from Jennifer Convertibles.

what is "moderately priced" to you?

Modern or Contemporary?

If ya came up this way, there's a crap ton of cheap furniture places in Norcross down the access road to I85 and Jimmy Carter...

Does the school / university you work at have a furniture design department? If they do you could maybe pick up or commission something innovative and individual while supporting and encouraging new talent. Might still prove more expensive than you'd like though.

H55: Cool. They have a showroom in Atlanta.
pep: Depends on how much I like it. Right now I'm thinking of getting this: http://shopping.yahoo.com/p:Adesso%20WK4225%20Memphis%20Sofa%20-%20Black:2002637626
The cheaper the better, but I'm willing to wait and spend some substantial money on something I really like.
I haven't checked craiglist yet, but since I live about 1.5 hour drive to Atlanta, that's not a great option. But an idea, esp. if I could find a style I liked.
beccah: Thanks for that tip! I'm going to buy a car tomorrow so I'll be mobile and can do some shopping in ATL.
Corey: What's the difference?

make art: That'd be a great idea, but I don't think they do. We have a small but vigorous art department here. I wish I could commission a local designer. It seems obscene to me that a simple clean design for a sofa or couch costs so much.

JC Penny actually has great prices on couches that are well made (far better than Ikea).

I haven't purchased one, yet. I'm holding out for some Morris Chairs, or maybe full grain leather club chair.

Oom Mao Mao said, (63 days ago)

Huh, I'll check out Penny's, joe.

I'd like a club chair. I think I might just get something to flop on when I watch TV and save up my money for something good.

I do like this, but it looks uncomfortable:

See if you can find a place that sells the samples from model homes. Just as new and less retail markup.

Jeepster: Wow, thanks for all the suggestions!

You know, I'd get a Camden sofa from Crate and Barrel, but I'm not that flush at the moment. I like the fabric on the Ava sofa though. Purty.

I might wait til after Xmas when all the retail places are hurtin', now that I think about it.

Saint Tee: Good idea.

that Beddown place looks like an option, depending on prices.

redbecca said, (62 days ago)

this place also has some nice stuff, and it looks as if they ship, but for how much?

When will couch-viewing commence?

Corey Hart said, (62 days ago)

Modern could refer to either the Modernistic period, or to contemporary design. Contemporary is explicitly... contemporary.

Oom Mao Mao said, (61 days ago)

Corey: I smell a tautology.

Corey Hart said, (61 days ago)

It's not my fault that "modern" has more than one definition!
