How come everytime i saw you on tv you were being all patriotical telly us all how YOU served in veitnam and that Obama guy didnt. Cut him some slack, the guy was probably, like, 12 when it was going on. I notice you dont bring up george "cant even spell retarded" bush, who's daddy made sure HE didnt serve or anything!

seriously, though, why is any one surprised that politicians are lying and cheating to get elected? they ALL do it. EVERY TIME. there's no excuse for it, and i certainly don't think it means you should ignore it, but WHY does anyone think the obama campaign is lying just as much, but just hiding it better? the democrats are just as likely to do that as the republicans.
that being said i'd rather see obama win.

It's not so much the act of lying by a politician that bothers me. Yes, politicians lie, but normally it's a "twisting of the truth" sort of thing, instead of an outright "that can't even possibly be construed as true" statement.
It's more the fact that the sentiment in the Republican base is that of true hate. McCain's own supporters BOOED HIM when he suggested they respect Obama as a decent man, even though he had a different viewpoint. Yelling out "terrorist!" and "kill him!" at rallys isn't the way to make your ideological viewpoints come off as modern, strong, or very leader-ly.

@skanko - it has to do with the invention of the 24 hr news cycle. Back in the late 80s/early 90s, there weren't 5 all day news channels with 23094832908743 pundits who have to get their opinions heard ad nauseum, along with the internet. It was just the evening news, so nothing got beaten into your head like it does now.

i agreed wholeheartedly, b/c news has now become a business they have to make shit to talk about, instead of focusing on what is important, and the populace buys into it hook line and sinker. I guess what is MORE infuriating is that instead of having some integrity, the news networks just further the dumbing down of the masses, and profit from it.
It sucks how much damage has been done by the myths and lies created by this campaign and its supporters.
Sucks doesn't begin to describe it actually.
And I try to talk to people but they just shut down. They don't want to try to hear the truth.
