So I'm staying at my parents' house while they're away. It's just me and the cats and it's after midnight here right now. I'm in the back of the house, and from the middle-front of the house, I hear this loud crash. I figure one of the cats knocked something over, so I run out to go see what it is, only to find that the pull-down attic is hanging open.

Oh, oops, I got busy with theraflu and 30 Rock. I'm alive. Monkey just called a little while ago.
See, one of the cats managed to climb up into the attic from outside, and he must have jumped on the attic door and pushed it down so it slammed really loud and he leapt from the attic to the floor.

@Adam: My parents aren't here! That's why I'm at their house. I guess y'all could have stuck around 'til they came back, but they won't be back for another week or so.
@le_sacre: The last time I house-sat for my parents, something did happen that freaked me out. I was outside feeding the cats really early in the morning, and I heard a bang, like someone inside the house had thrown something at one of the windows. I got so scared that I checked every room in the house, and then went and sat in my parents' bed, clutching my phone and watching "Saved By the Bell" at the lowest possible volume. I wanted to call people, too, but it was, like, 6 am on a Saturday or something.
Did it make your cough disappear?
