Madeleine Albright to Sarah Palin: 'Back off, bitch.'
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/05/palin-misquotes-albright_n_131967.htmlOkay, not really. But seriously:
Albright responded to Palin's remarks in a statement to the Huffington Post on Sunday. "Though I am flattered that Governor Palin has chosen to cite me as a source of wisdom, what I said had nothing to do with politics. This is yet another example of McCain and Palin distorting the truth, and all the more reason to remember that this campaign is not about gender, it is about which candidate has an agenda that will improve the lives of all Americans, including women. The truth is, if you care about the status of women in our society and in our troubled economy, the best choice by far is Obama-Biden."

Yeah. I mean, both sides surely distort the truth, but in the last 12 years, the GOP seems to have been the worst offender, stopping short of almost nothing to sway public opinion against their opponents.
The sick part is, it WORKS. The voting public just eats that shit up.
Well, it's beginning to look more and more like there's gonna be no way to fudge the elections this time - it's not close enough.
If that's the case, Obama WILL win.
Then, of course, the issue becomes him having to make a silk purse out of the sow's ear that is America at the moment.
Because you know if he doesn't deliver we're going right back into the hands of the GOP.
I had that exact conversation with my folks this weekend. They usually vote GOP, but have just been so disgusted with the last 8 years that, dislike of him aside, they are leaning Obama. These ads are basically aimed at THEM.
My mom's under the impression Obama is going to raise her taxes so she's sticking my her right leaning ways. And to think, she was a democrat when I was growing up.
My dad's analysis: he doesn't completely trust Obama, because he's too smooth and pompous. But McCain is a geezer and an idiot, and Palin is just a plain ole idiot, so Obama it is.
Ha well my mom is also being all girl power. "If some black voters can just vote for Obama cause he's black, then I can just vote for McCain cause Palin's a woman." And then I cringed and started spouting about how she's not really a woman and is anti-woman's rights. That didn't go over well.
1. On Palin:
Funny enough, Hillary Clinton has nothing but well-balanced praise for Palin's debate skills:

2. On Albright:
I love, love Albright. Any person who can say on national TV with a straight face that's its okay to kill half-a-million Iraqi children to stop Saddam from getting WMD has balls of solid steel.

@Sharon: No, your Mom is right. If Obama was an Uncle Tom, you could still vote for him because he's black. He doesnt become a fake black if he's anti-affirmative action or something of the sort.
Additionally, let's not forget that reportedly some of the female leaders in the sufferage women were against abortion. So, are they self hating women?
@MD: "Fake black?"
Please, enlighten us further. Tell us about "fake blacks." and while you're sterotyping, tell us about "fake whites" and other "fake" racial groups, too.
people should probably try to read each other's posts more carefully. just sayin'.
"IF YOU DON'T VOTE FOR ME, YOU ARE GOING TO HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL"
Sadly, I think that there are people out there who would believe her. God, this country scares the crap out of me.
@Mizzchelle:
Being someone sarcastic at the use of "fake black", but people do apply the question "is he black enough" to Obama, Condi Rice and Collin Powell.
Right or wrong, people do try to put in cultural values, norms and behaviors on what it means to be black. See:

Is Obama black enough?

Or the books/speeches:
"Losing the Race" by John McWhorter
Poundcake Speech by Bill Cosby
Furthermore, I was mainly responding to Sharon's comment about " "And then I cringed and started spouting about how she's [Palin] not really a woman and is anti-woman's rights".
Palin is really a woman (as far as I know biologically?), but what Sharon seems to imply (and please chime in Sharon) is that if you're voting for a woman because she's a woman - she better be supporting "pro-woman" issues (how ever you define that).
So, I was jestly mocking the idea of "being woman enough" by contrasting it with the idea of being "black enough".
Hope you see where I'm coming from.
@MD - The thing is, I have a problem with people voting along race/gender lines.
Honestly, if McCain/Palin made it into office, it would set back women's right. They want to cut funding to women's health programs and McCain has consistently voted against these things. He's also voted against equal pay for women. So, voting for McCain because of Palin seems counter productive. Even if you're a woman who doesn't support women's health - you should at least be on board for equal pay.

I really want them to lose, not just because I disagree with the GOP platform, but because I'd like to see going negative and blatantly lying actually have consequences for once.
