Did you do it with sugar and flames? I drank it straight once for a dare and regretted it something shocking.

I had some of the real stuff in a mixed drink shortly after they made it legal in the US last year. Same reaction.

Do you know what brand you drank? Lucid, which is Swiss, is overpriced junk. The French and American ones are much more artisan and don't rely on massive amounts of anise and green food coloring to mask their otherwise horrible products.

@Previous Toast: It was "legalized" in the US last year (quotes as it had actually been sort of legal since just before WWII, just no one noticed).

The flames are all Hollywood and somehow made it into mainstream as "the way". Randomly, and uncontrollably, caramelizing sugar will net you a very disgusting addition.

It does. It tastes like this childhood medicine I had (it has similar ingredients). Not tasty at all.

Yeah, well, I just did it with sugar and water, how the bottle said. I actually didn't drink much at all, because it was disgusting. A friend of my brother's brought it over Friday because he's moving to England and it was his going away present. It was Lucid brand, so maybe if I try a better one sometime, I might like it more. I dunno. Next year maybe I'll go to an absinthe cafe. They have to have better stuff there, right?
