We are not going to be separating religious marriage and civil marriage for a long time yet. First, we need to remember the separation of church and state that this country is founded on and give the same rights and privileges to all people.

This is making me crazy. I'm both sort of embarrassed with her and scared that she's hitting the tried/true GOP high notes too well.

Here's a statement from the conclusion to my favorite Supreme Court case, Brown vs. the Board of Education:

"I conclude from the testimony that in our Delaware society, State-imposed segregation in education itself results in the Negro children, as a class, receiving educational opportunities which are substantially inferior to those available to white children otherwise similarly situated."

Separate and equal cannot coexist.

@Xenu: Interracial marriage has been happening with the support of both church and state for millennia. The laws banning them were seen as being backwards. There was no baby step because there was no question that the resulting union would in fact be a marriage, if allowed.

A majority of people don't really understand how a gay marriage would work. Allowing civil unions will show them.

As for the "separate but equal" argument, I have great difficulty seeing how anyone's civil rights are harmed by their marriage licenses sitting in different filing cabinets.

Biden and Obama are on record favoring rights legally equivalent to marriage, which is much more comprehensive than the civil unions currently in existence in the US.

I actually just had to stop watching. Palin's voice not only does me in BUT THE UTTER SHIT SHE SAYS MAKES ME SO FRUSTRATED AND WORRIED THAT YOUR COUNTRY WILL VOTE FOR MCCAIN. She hasn't answered a question yet! She just talks in circles of nonsense! GAH!
