Well yeah, you knew I'd have a 'Heroes' thread

http://instantcallback.blogspot.com/2008/09/days-of-future-peter-tic-vs-heroes-31.html There's spoilers in my link, so let's talk Villains.

Not going to boringly repeat my comments from the other thread, but will track and see how it goes :)

Something I didn't mention in the other places: is it me, or are they going to have the balls to hint at a reformation for Sylar?

H55 said, (58 days ago)

Just having Sylar admit he wasn't the mostest specialist person around was a HUGE leap for the character.

ABoyNamedArt said, (58 days ago)

Yeah, this was a pretty well-defined version of the character. Of course, no idea how he went from broke and powerless in NYC to slicked-out and creepy in SoCal. But, you gotta take what you can from this show, I guess.

Interesting that Mama P is using him to go after the other Big Bads. Could he be coming to save her in that dream of hers?

-j. said, (58 days ago)

I'm hoping "the Bads" are given something to do other than just be sociopathic. One of season 2's most interesting characters, Maury Parkman, was disposed of far too summarily.

H55 said, (58 days ago)

It looks like Mama P is just banking on who she can control. Sylar is eminently predictable - he'll kill for powers. HRG is predictable - he'll protect Claire at all costs. FuturePete is both unpredictable and an idiot. CurrentPete, who she wants back, is an idiot, but one that can be manipulated.

Also, yeah: if we're supposed to believe that no time elapsed between Nathan getting shot and the events of this episode, NOBODY not named Petrelli or Parkman had their plot line up.

Though - and Art, I'm sure you'll understand where I am coming from - I DID get a bit of a "Superboy Wall Punch"/"Darkseid fell back through time and broke reality" vibe from some of the lines last night.

I may actually be excited for this. I'm glad that we have villains now, it was never addressed before there were just a shit-ton of people with powers who wanted to do good and Sylar who ended up riding around in Mexico with two illegal immigrants and a frat boy. This is what the show needs. More villains means that the Heroes are going to have to bond together, or at least they better.

The Mad Silentist said, (58 days ago)

Oh and your column was really well written. Good job, sir.

I always felt the criticism against season 2 was a little harsh due to the fact that we knew it was only really "half a season." The villain arc was suppose to go on from feb (after a mid season hiatus) till june. Granted obviously time probably helped in fleshing out the storyline a lot more which these two episodes had in spades and yeah i'm totally excited, especially considering how topsy turvy everything is now

Speculations on Linderman? Anyone?

H55 said, (58 days ago)

Linderman couldn't bring people back from the dead, could he? He could just heal anything. The doctor seemed pretty sure that Nathan was actually dead. So I'm not sure it is actually Linderman, unless he can repair things that *just* died.

Also, the fact that only Nathan can see him makes me think that some member of the Parkman clan (Maury, FutureMatt) is messing with his mind.

ABoyNamedArt said, (58 days ago)

J: Linderman was explained, at least for now, as a vision. I've read speculation he might play -- and Galactica fans will get this -- the Six to Nathan's Baltar.

ABoyNamedArt said, (58 days ago)

Oh, and that Legion of Doom line-up we saw in Mama P's dream looked formidable: Knox, Niki/Jessica/Strauss, Kensei Beckham and Old Man Parkman? Yikes.

-j. said, (58 days ago)

@H55: I too wondered if Linderman was an illusion...to be honest the first thing I thought was that "Candice" was back somehow, but talked myself out of that. Guess we'll see.

H55 said, (58 days ago)

Re: Candice, I was wondering how FuturePete got his cool morphing power.

-j. said, (58 days ago)

@H55: or his "I can put people's brains in other people's bodies" power. I guess FuturePete has just had some time to pick up some new skilz. (Although, in keeping with Art's previous comment about less-than-superlative intelligence, I'm not sure why he didn't just shoot Nathan while invisible, which we know he can do.)

H55 said, (58 days ago)

@j: because then we all would have expected Claude, and slaughtered the writers when Chris Eccleston didn't show up.

ABoyNamedArt said, (58 days ago)

On another front, anybody catch that 'Countdown' show that preceded the premieres? My goodness, Ali Larter is a terrible presenter.

-j. said, (58 days ago)

@Art: I did. The whole thing was terrible. I thought everyone looked really uncomfortable with the possible exception of Coleman. Also Mohinder-noaccent-WTF??

ABoyNamedArt said, (58 days ago)

J: I actually thought Masi Oka & Zach Quinto handled themselves decently. Oka's little "send it to the monitors" motion was enjoyably cheesy.

But, yeah, hearing Mohinder without the accent was almost as jarring as the first time I heard James Marsters speak out of character.

Factoid of the day: the guy who's currently housing Present Pete's consciousness is played by the grandson of Frank Capra.

H55 said, (58 days ago)

Also: Mama P's last line to Sylar. Should we take that at face value? I honestly hope not. It would kill the poignancy of all of Gabriel Gray's scences from S1.

ABoyNamedArt said, (58 days ago)

Herald: Agreed. Though it's very possible -- did you see the look on Sylar's face when she said it? -- that it's some sort of powers-boosted manipulation.

Hmm ... Mama P has a pattern. There's certain lines she delivers where she touches the person she's convincing -- Nathan in S1 comes to mind -- and the person comes around. Some sort of tactile persuasion power?

H55 said, (58 days ago)

Art: but save for Sylar and Peter, we haven't seen people who display multiple powers. Tactile persuasion also doesn't seem like the type of thing that would evolve from prophetic dreams.

There may be a much simpler explanation: Mama P is a complete badass, and can persuade people based on her own natural skill. Touching may just be a way she has of forming a connection.

-j. said, (58 days ago)

@H55: Well, we may have just seen multiple powers from Niki, but it has yet to be explained :)

ABoyNamedArt said, (58 days ago)

Herald: But, if either/or is her son, then it's possible to surmise it's in the family's genetic code. And did we ever found out what the deceased Mr. Petrelli's power was, if any?

bluefish said, (58 days ago)

"After disposing of Present-Day Peter and Parkman, Future Peter later heals Nathan, who instead credits the Almighty for the save, despite the fact that Peter saved him last year."

wait, did they show it being Peter who saved him? i thought they implied that it was Linderman.

ABoyNamedArt said, (57 days ago)

Blue: Here's how the sequence went:

1) the doctor pronounced Nathan dead and left the room
2) Re-Pete kissed his forehead
3) Nate wakes up

Now, unless they establish that Linderman is, in fact, a corporeal entity, that's what I'm going with. Right before I watch that shark leap over all of us.

bluefish said, (57 days ago)

but peter looks surprised when nathan sits up.
