So, I broke my leg in two places Saturday night, and I've now got three pins in my leg and I can't walk for at least a week.

My first broken bone(s)...my first ride in an ambulance...

good times

i would like to lie and say that it was sustained in the field of battle...or while scaling a mountain...or wrestling a bear on the edge of a cliff...

but, in truth, it was this:

my friend has her "legendary" birthday party every year at a Gymnastics place.

it was really not something i was gaga about going to, but she's a sweetheart and has good friends, and rather than play the party pooper, i went along.

and so it is that i fell off a trampoline
actually, i stopped short on the edge of a trampoline - snapped my foot (and heard/saw it snap, which if you've never had that experience first hand, consider yourself blessed), and then fell, and as i fell, i fell onto my leg, breaking it a 2nd time.

i did, actually. which is hard to do when you're rolling around on the floor, biting your hand and going "oh fuck, oh my fucking god, i fucking can't believe that just happened."

but then i did reach a sort of blissed-out state where this guy jeff came over and patted my shoulder and i did the whole "they got me, Mac...two tours and i'm going home early" thing, as they lifted me into the ambulance.

after a while, i just tried to think as positively as i could

didn't help that when i got to the hospital, no less than 10 people stopped by my gurney in the hallway "hey...what happened to you?" and thru the pain i had to describe what happened, and THEN they brought in the suicidal, flatulant gay drug addict to lie on the gurney next to mine.

ah, taht which doesn't kill you...

Damn.

Well, remember to do what they say; don't walk! You'll recover quicker and better.

Oh man, that sounds horrible. I was just talking the other day about trampolines and how dangerous they are. But I suppose that's not what you want to hear. Feel better!

Dude, as a hospital employee, I have to say trampolines are a fucking scourge on the citizenry. One of our trauma docs in the ICU and I were just kinda randomly chatting one day, and she made the remark that if we were to ban one thing to reduce traumatic injuries, it should be the trampoline and not the motorcycle.

Her reasoning was that while the motorcycle accident does fuck you up tremendously, motorcycles do at least serve a practical purpose and people use them to move around on. Trampolines provide entertainment, but also just kinda sit around waiting to hurt people. Further, since most trampolines are only about $500 bucks, most families can afford one as long as they have the space. Usually you need a few grand to get into trouble with on a motorcycle, and people don't send their elementary school aged kids out to play on trampolines.

I hope you have a speedy recovery and that your pain meds are doing what they're supposed to!

Oh my god. I'm so sad that this happened to you. I wanna visit you and give you hugs and do some kind juju healing ritual on your leg so it gets fixed in a snap. Eek. Get better soon babes.

my new best friend, vicodin, and i are doing quite well!

and my mom has decided to fly in and help me out for a few days. which i resisted at first, but then...it took me 15 minutes to do things like brush my teeth or get a glass of OJ out of the fridge and get it back to my bedroom and so now it's like "yeah...i could use the help." (seriously, it's one of those things where you don't think about something until you lose it...basically, carrying anything other than a piece of paper or a sock is proving virtually impossible)

that sucks! i remember breaking my ankle last year, so i feel your pain.
