If you've wondered what happened to me...
I woke up on Wednesday and was getting ready for work. As I was getting dressed, I started breathing heavilly and couldn't catch my breath and my heart was racing. I couldn't move more than a few feet before it hit me again, so I ended up in the Emergency Room. It turns out I had a pulmonary embalism. Basically, I had a blood clot in my leg which disloged and travelled into my lung cutting off the blood supply to it. They kept me for 1 day in the ICU and installed a filter in my artery which will keep any more clot material (There is still some in my leg) from getting into my lungs. I am now on anti-coagulants and was released from the hospital today. I'm doing much better but I still have some healing to do. They believe that the clot was caused by the very long plane rides I was on when I went to New York in July.Replies
Jeez, Jay. Thank goodness you are alright.
How are you actually feeling? Is there anything that you need, or that I could do?
omgggg Jay! I'm so glad you're okay! I'm sorry this happened :C
*gentle squeeze* thank god they found it when they did, jay. I'm glad you're on your way to recovery.
happy, healthy thoughts from the urban tundra :)
Thanks, guys.
@-j. I'm actually feeling pretty good. I get a little out of breath when I walk too far (which isn't very far at all). The anti-coagulants and keeping as active as possible will help get rid of the clots. I'm staying at my brother's house for the time being and he and my mom will be here to help me out. So, I think I'll be okay. I'm down but not out. :)
@Jay: atta boy. A quick and smooth recovery to you...and the offer to help (in any way I can) stands.
Oh my god, Jay. I wish I had known about this sooner. I want you lots and lots better.
Also, I can still feel a phantom up-the-nostril oxygen thingy. :D
@Menda - Thanks, I wish I had been able to tell everyone sooner, but I never got my laptop into the hospital.
Keep my number in your phone!!! 256-458-8515. This is totally what I'm here for.
@Menda - I didn't have my phone either. My brother took it because they don't allow it in the ICU. :(
Wow, dude, you're lucky your ER caught that, cuz PE is a no-shit killer.
We have these little air massagey thingies that you put on your legs here in our ICE specifically designed to help keep clots from forming. Everybody gets them, no questions asked, since PE is so dangerous.
glad you're OK! thank goodness for modern medicine! and thank goodness for brothers and moms and friends helping out. take care of yourself and feel better soon!
@Jas - Yeah, St. Alphonsus here in Boise is a really good hospital. I'm glad they were there for me, and hope I never have to see that place again.
It was weird how many people that helped me there were people I know.
1. The nurse in the ER who was initially assigned to me used to be married to a guy that I graduated from High School with.
2. Later in the ER, another nurse came in. He was a friend of my sister in High School and he used to hang out at my house.
3. The CNA in the ICU that was assigned to my room is a friend I met on twitter, and just happened to be working there that day.
It was good to have people I knew there at the hospital.
aiii! I'm glad you're feeling okay now and hope you keep getting better!
That is some scary shit. I am glad that you are ok. Do you have to take the anti-coagulant shots in your stomach? I had to do shots like that when I broke my legs.
@Jay - good, I'm glad to hear people you knew got to help you at your hospital. Ice cream cake is highly appreciated by medical personnel BTW. :-)
I saw a shirt the other day for nurses that said, "Drive safely, or I might see you naked one day!"
@Renazzle - Yeah, I'm on the shots for another few days. I'm also taking Coumadin (an oral) but that takes a few days to get rid of the coagulants, so they have me on the shots until that takes effect. They also decided to put me on insulin for my diabetes, so for now, I have to give myself about 6 shots in the stomache a day. It's not too bad, though. I never thought I'd be able to give myself a shot, but considering how many times I've been poked by needles over the last few days, I've gotten kinda desensitized to it.
omg. feel better. not that there is prolly, but let me know if there's anything I can do!
@Jas - That's a good point. I'll have to remember that. I should do something to thank them.
@beccah - Just your support (and all of you too) is good. Thanks.
@ginger - No, they didn't put any leg things on me.
Hey Jay, I'm so sorry to hear that, but I am glad you are feeling better. Please take care!
@Jay!!! That sucks, but I'm glad you're getting better.
Also - they may blame it on the flights, but I am pretty sure I was the responsible by suggesting you use some Juice Newton on your next house mix. Just the thought of that could stop anyone's blood from flowing.
As everyone else said, I'm so glad to hear you're okay. Sounds like you were in good hands!
Just think, it was like you were in a REAL LIFE episode of HOUSE.
Wow, I'm so glad you're recovering. When I was about thirteen, my mom also suffered a pulmonary embolism. It was super scary and it's great that you've come out of it with little hospital time. Bravo!
My brother, I'm sorry to hear about your embolism and you have my best wishes for your speedy recovery.
Jesus. Very glad to hear you're doing better. Hope your recovery is quick.
Aw Jay Def! I'm so sorry, and I'm glad you're better! Ric and I've missed you!
Thanks for your kind words, everyone. I knew you all cared! :)
@Sosane - I've missed you guys too. Glad to see you back.
@Fujikhan Johnathan - I &hearts you too, dude.
Jay!! Oh my goodness, I just found out about this. GAH. I'm so glad you're okay!
How are you feeling now? I hope much better... < 3 !!!
@mizzchelle - I'm feeling a lot better now. I'm still getting a little out of breath if I exert myself too much. Also, there is still some clotting in my leg, so it's still swelling and it aches a little. Other than that, I'm feeling a lot better.
@Jay: I just sent you an email and I will call you tonight. Take care of yourself!
holy shit -- take care of yourself, AND let your mom and brother take care of you. I'm glad you're feeling a bit better.
Holy fuck ass that sucks! You know what you need? I think you need another Chicken & Waffles vacation once you're feeling better. :P
jesus, Jay, that's awful. I'm glad you're doing better and so remarkably quickly.

Holy good god, man! Remarkable recovery.
