Potential awkwardness: tomorrow I'm hanging out with a friend and some of her friends, including one who happens to have dated the guy I'm currently dating. And they know nothing about the two of us yet! Also, apparently she's a gossip.

this sounds really juicy..

I really hope it isn't. It's just that she is one of the only exes who would talk shit about him, which isn't really what I want to hear.

Isn't there any way for you to have a tiny camera on your lapel, like in the movies?

I can just picture saying, "Oh yeah, I'm dating this guy who uhhh...well, I think you know him." and a HUGE AWKWARD SILENCE hanging in the air.

well, if she does talk shit, she is a cockbag.

I never talk shit about my ex-boyfriends to potential girlfriends. I want them to suffer first hand.

Hahah, exactly! I mean...it's just not a good source.

Even though, they're apparently still "friends." Sort of.

Alright, so the ex ended up not being able to come yesterday. I did tell my friend, whose reaction was along the lines of "Oh. Huh." with lots of pauses. She said she didn't know him well, and didn't say anything bad about him, but then later added that if I wanted her two cents she would give them to me.

What am I supposed to do with this??

:O

Well, if you ask her, she told you so and he gets no benefit of the doubt. If you don't ask her immediately, you have the option of asking him first about his previous relationship and making sure that he fesses up to everything that happened and then maybe asking your friend.

I've already asked him....and my take is that the ex (and therefore my friend) harbor somewhat bad feelings simply because they want to. I'm not saying he's acted perfectly in the past (but who has?)...but yeah.

I kind of feel like I need to ask her just because I'll go mad with curiosity if I don't.

The saner approach would be to not do it, but if you have a burning curiosity go for it. Just don't expect it to color him in a good light.

Hmmmmmm. That's true too. I started drafting an email but then couldn't send it. HMMMMM.

Thanks for the advice so far, though.
