I don't understand Chuck P. It's just shock value.

Yeah, it doesn't have much literary merit.
Apparently he's a pretty good guy though. My ex wrote him a really horrific drunken letter once and Chuck sent him a package with a really nice letter, an autographed book and some homemade bead necklaces with some sort of charms to help him rid himself of drug addiction.
@Mike Neil Gaiman is a fantastic writer and I love American Gods. Have you read the companion novel? Not as dark and I didn't like it as much but it's still a good read.
@hey I want a letter from Chuck P!
I agree. So many of my friends think he's the shit. I'm whatever about him.
I read Fight Club after seeing the film and liked it. Haven't checked out anything else yet. Everyone I know that's read anything else by the dude was pretty disappointed.
@ the mad silentist: I only read american gods, anastizi boys, the one set in london (didnt like as much) and some short stories... the short stories were the best
Hey hey hey... companion novel? Did I miss something??
In regards to Chuck Palaniuk, I like him. I think like any writer, he has ups and downs. Choke is my favorite. I didn't care for Lullaby.
I think that when anyone sets any writer up to be infallible, the writer is sure to fail.
I was fairly disappointed by his most recent book, Snuff. That was the one that made me start to think he was doing it just for the shock value. Everything that came before, especially Fight Club, had a good story and something interesting to say. Snuff just seemed to be about how many euphemisms he could find for rubbing one out.
I know, silly. I was just aghast at how someone could read the whole book and get the title so off, especially when it refers to a pretty damn old and well-established set of legends/folk tales.
Ok good, for a second I thought you miiight not have known about it. :p

i only read fight club and survivor - yes their is shock value and a cult of personality. lets face it, he could shit in a box and sell...
but it's also veguly romantic if you buy into it.
hell if you want a happy ending to a fish out of water / identity crisis read gamins's american gods
