In searching for the name of the album for twigby's thread, I found out that there is no Wikipedia article about the J. Giles Band.

It's not like they were the biggest group, but I'd think someone would have written an article about them.

Skanko said, (80 days ago)

how can they not have an article about the originator of "The Southside Shuffle"?

Jay Def said, (80 days ago)

I don't know. It's a mystery to me.

Skanko said, (80 days ago)

for some reason i ALWAYS get J. Giles and Billy Squier confused. I'm probably the only person, mainly because I'm probably the only person born after 1980 that even knows who both of them are.

BLASPHEMY!

sparky said, (80 days ago)

I think that means they didn't really exist.

Jay Def said, (80 days ago)

@sparky - But I remember listening to them on my gigantic walkman in the early 80's!

Uh, try spelling "John Geils" correctly:

Awesome group! Monkey Island is a great album.

Jay Def said, (80 days ago)

@mikkoman - Ah, damn. I was trying to spell it in Google, and everything was leading me to J. Giles. Thanks.

Jay Def said, (80 days ago)

I was going to delete this now that I've been corrected, but I think I'll leave it up as a testiment to how lame I am.

Also, feel free to discuss J. Geils in here. :)

i know someone already posted it, but it'll make me feel better if i post it too.

Jay Geils is actually a decent blues guitarist. In the early 90's, he teamed with harpist Magic Dick and recorded a couple of albums under the name "Bluestime".

I am so sad that I saw this thread too late to be the first to point out that the harmonica player's name was MAGIC DICK.

sodoff jonathan said, (80 days ago)

"Magic Dick on the lickin' stick!"

If there is ever another NYC consu/GTI-karaoke nite, I hereby promise to sing "Centerfold."

Jay Def said, (79 days ago)

@sodoff - Centerfold is a great song. I think my favorite is Freeze Frame, though.

Love stinks!

Xenu said, (79 days ago)

I'm wondering if I would be stoned to death if I asked, "Who's J. Geils Band?"

Because I think they had a song called Centerfold, but I'm not sure.

soulcamp said, (79 days ago)

@Xenu: Nah, most of the people here aren't really old enough to remember them. And us old fogies are used to that by now. But you get bonus points for your guess - Centerfold was their biggest hit.

Now, how many of you can name a Juice Newton song?

Jay Def said, (79 days ago)

@soulcamp - A little thing called Angle of the Morning.

soulcamp said, (79 days ago)

I think I'm partial to Love's Been A Little Bit Hard On Me.

Jay Def said, (79 days ago)

You didn't say "name your favorite"...just name a Juice Newton song. :D

soulcamp said, (79 days ago)

@Jay: I want to hear some Juice Newton in your next house mix. Think you can serve me up some Juice boogie?

Jay Def said, (79 days ago)

I'll see what I can do.
