Virginia Tech vs. young voters
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/09/09/virginia-county-issues-chilling-voter-registration-report/ From the article: "Last week, Virginia’s Montgomery County, home to Virginia Tech, issued a press release regarding proper protocol for college students registering to vote. In interviews with Inside Higher Ed Tuesday, it was described by turns as “unsubstantiated,” “chilling,” and (more generously) as not “incredibly encouraging or friendly.”Replies
I've seen things like this done on every college campus i've been on. republicans have told the students that if they register to vote in the state of the college they could have all sorts of dire penalties rained down upon them.
That item linked to this article which seems to indicate that the GOP will probably be having more votes thrown out in 2008: http://www.truthout.org/article/nearly-600000-voters-subject-possible-caging-ohio
Stolen Election Part 3, here we come!
Hey Art, is this where I relate how much more of my state seems to be backing Dems than Repubs lately anyway?
The only annoying point of that report though, is they neglect to state the actual facts of voting of college students. Unless there's been a miraculous change in voting trends, the college kids are a big part of that apathetic crowd that has all the excuses as to why they don't vote. Not to mention they're registered at home, and could always absentee vote since it's always been a truth when I go vote that my address on my ID has to match the address they've got at my voting place. Otherwise, I'm voting for people in a district where I don't claim to actually live, which is all done by the physical ID. Why allow a voter to decide who represents the ward I live in, when they actually live in a nearby city but haven't changed their ID and voter registration to vote for who actually represents their ward?
Also, Radford's in the same county as VT/Blacksburg. So they're just targeting Tech and not Radford?

They should be prosecuted. Or hanged. I'm indifferent to the punishment.
