what makes a photograph interesting?

go for contrast. soft skin on a pretty girl next to a rusted out abandoned vehicle. or use light to add depth. or color to create emotion. or focus to communicate priority.
Wow, I have no idea what makes good photography. But I know it when I see it.

@oblomov: Thanks for the link. I find the golden ratio and sacred geometry interesting, but I've never read anything about photographic application, intentional or otherwise.
