I WANT HER ON ME. NOW.

@val - she is pretty awesome. i might get her with dark hair though. shes so lovely. her name is inga. class, say hello to inga....
@sven - hahaha ok. i was confused. I just gotta figure out where to put her.
sorrry im sleeeeepy and confused.
@L - yeah its very traditional but different. however i kinda feel like an asshole having someone tattoo someone elses tattoo inspired art on me. i just can't afford to fly to amsterdam to have this woman tattoo me... and she has said in a bunch of interviews she doesnt do guest spots, so theres NO chance of getting tattooed by her in the states.
yeah, miss houtkamp is a tough one to get in with. the problem being that any good tattoo artist will recognize her work and not want to put it on you. which means you will be stuck with sleazeos.
@L- and i feel kinda dick doing it. the place i got my latest tattoo is REALLY good with traditional style stuff, and i think the young guy there (who i was really pleased with the work he did on me last time) might do it. its worth at least asking i think because i like it so much. i almost want to say its not much different than getting a piece of a painting or something like that done on you, and they shouldnt get so uptight about it, but it ISNT the same. i just know i'll never be able to get tattooed by miss houtkamp herself.
well, the thing is, if she were selling these pieces as flash, then it would be acceptable, because then she'd be encouraging people to use her designs. but she's not- she's putting them out there as unique and almost as tattoos themselves.
i know :-/
but she does also sell half of her stuff on her website as replicas.
i dunno. im conflicted on this issue. and being someone who has no artistic talent whatsoever, i do value the fact that this is HER art. grrr. i dunno what to do.
i would say you should show the piece to your guy and say that you really like the style, and want him to get as close as possible, and have him do you a drawing his way.
very true. i was thinking about going with dark hair anyway, ehhh. we'll see. but either way, i'm glad i found this book of hers. shes right up my alley.
as much as I normally don't go for tats, I could approve of this one 100%.
the thing about sailor jerry stuff is it has to be done suuuuper clean or it looks trashy/boring.
@l - yeah, the newest shop ive been to is pretty terrific when it comes to traditional style stuff, Mike Schweigert works there and has been doing a lot of that type of stuff for over 20 years now, he's supposedly fantastic. word on the street is that its THE place to go around here for traditional sailor type tattoos. i'll give them a call or swing down (its about an hour from my apt) and see what they say.

CHECK IT OUT VAL!
maybe with dark hair, but still. i want this. now.
