Because they're idiots? That's my only guess.

I like to believe that stupidity is no excuse.

This reminds me, I had one yesterday that couldn't download and open a doc file.

Let's see if she managed it today. Nope. She couldn't even tell me if she has Word 2007.

I believe if your name ends in an "ee" sound, you get -5 to your intelligence rolls.

What's a software restriction policy?

Did they tell you - they couldn't open it? Or did you witness this? Maybe try an rtf instead? Those tend to open straight to Word instead of in notepad.

is this at uni? did the labs just upload a new image to the computers?

we had about a week last year where nobody could open word documents because the image had an unactivated version of Word. .txt....I dunno. There should be seven ways from sunday to open those.

They said the computer wouldn't open it because of Software Restriction Policy.

I shall try .rtf, even though I do enjoy the sparseness of .txt

I told them they should be able to find *some* program to open it, but sometimes people are simple.

I thought this generation had been swimming in technology since they emerged from the womb. When did the young'uns become atheoretical Luddites?

fuz: I know. I'm really disappointed. I thought it was all like Neuromancer and shit now.

I know with the student athletes I work with - it's REALLY hit or miss. Though they all know how to handle facebook like pros - but even emailing a file to themselves is like rocket science - let alone using a flashdrive. Most likely because all they did in HS was print off one copy of their paper and physically hand it to the teacher. And who knows if they were the ones who even managed to print the document.
