And I will pass on the jumping beans. The last thing I need are a bunch of nasty little moths flying around eating my curtains after they hatch and the beans stop "jumping"

Yes that's why you are supposed to throw them away before they stop jumping. If they stop it means they've hatched. I think. Also, usually, they are sold in clear plastic boxes so at least that way they will die inside or hatch but not get far.
It's kind of gross if you think about it.
I remember getting some as a kid and one day the beans were gone. But mom let me keep the little plastic box.
