are there a lot of straight internet daters whose "favorite books" sections are proudly empty too, or is it just the gays?

I have a favorite book. But my ENTIRE OKCupid profile is empty, so I don't think I count.

I suspect it's a lot of people. 25% of Americans didn't read a book last year.

See, my "favorite books" section might be empty out of pure indecision. You want me to pick a handful of favorite books? Impossible!

yeah, i'm talking about when it's conspicuously empty.  or when, no joke, it says, "just magazines LOL."

!!!!!

i'm as guilty as any grad student of neglecting recreational reading, and i'm not one to insist that books are intellectually superior to other forms of expression, but... yikes.

I'm finding the other end of the spectrum. Every girl I've met lately has had an enormous library of well-read books and can carry on a decent conversation about any one of them. It's a refreshing change.

Not just the gays. Sigh.

Mine says tabloids and Steinbeck. I don't like reading books, I don't have the attention span for anything that isn't an episode of Dallas.

i immediately reject anyone who can't list a book in their favorites section. if you have such an appreciation of reading that picking one is too hard, awesome, if you can't pick a favorite book because you haven't read one since high school? you're out.

I like the, 'I have no attention span, I can't seem to get through a book' attitude. That's pretty prevalent in the straight section too.

Those guys FAIL.

Soulcamp: I don't know if the Ruby on Rails book counts...
