CRAP I JUST BROKE A CFL BULB
Replies
Was it older or newer? As Fluorescent bulbs get older the Merc bonds to the glass, s little it released. Actually, there's so little in each one to begin with, that breaking a single one isn't going to hurts a fly.
Remember, that you probably saved more mercury from entering the atmosphere through lower energy use than you just released.
It was brand new. I cleaned it up and have managed to calm down mostly. But I'm pissed because I wanted to go to bed early wahhhhhhhh.
What does one need to do in these situations? My place is stocked with CFL bulbs.
1. Open window.
2. Leave room (or apartment, if it's small) for 15 minutes. Take pets.
3. Clean up debris with thick paper or cardboard. Place in sealed plastic bag or a glass jar that you can seal. Use duct tape to clean up any small bits.
I still haven't figured out what to do with the jar yet.
(If you really want I can give you a site with more specifics, but that is the gist.)
PANIC!!!!
Then sweep up the mess, put it in a jar and bring it to IKEA. They have a program for the proper disposal of those bulbs. (At least they do up here)
