So I think this will prove Twigby is right that most of us aren't geeks AT ALL.

Yup. Apparently I'm only a poser at geek.

i'd imagine there are a bunch of guys with long hair, ponytails and mastodon t-shirts who are creaming themselves over this.

I wasn't even cognizant enough for half of these things to happen

When did geeks become exclusionary elitists?

"Take the quiz, track your points, then apply the Janssen Loop Binary algorithm to determine your final score. (If you don’t what this is, you’re immediately disqualified.)"

When I was growing up, geeks were open-armed and accepting to all. Maybe this is just a Nerdy Asshole test.

portableteejay said, (78 days ago)

I did score 106, but I was immediately disqualified.

Jay Def said, (78 days ago)

I scored 109, and I would have been disqualified, but I told them to take thier Janssen Loop Binary algorithm and shove it in their ass.

FiZ said, (78 days ago)

If this quiz is any kind of official standard, then I happily hand in my geek card.

Corey Hart said, (78 days ago)

The test is geared towards materialistic pop-culture geeks. Those who value possessions more than human contact.

FiZ said, (78 days ago)

Yeah, I stopped taking it after the 129835897th question that gave a bajillion points just for name dropping from Star Wars.

FiZ said, (78 days ago)

Then again, I should have looked at domain name and known better.

Jay Def said, (78 days ago)

Yeah, I think I should have at least gotten some points for owning an IBM PC 5150.

lamebrains said, (78 days ago)

Whoops... I never applied any extra arithmetic to the score. I am a LOSER

-j. said, (78 days ago)

79, although I dispute the validity of any Geek Test that spells Tolkien's name incorrectly.

Jay Def said, (78 days ago)

@-j. - Ha! They did misspell his name.

lamebrains said, (78 days ago)

-j: Want a proofing job? nice work ;)

Corey Hart said, (78 days ago)

Also, the number 42 isn't funny. IS NOT FUNNY.

-j. said, (78 days ago)

@lamebrains: YES I DO.

I think you're going to automatically fail if you were born after 1975.

Tolkein = genius (10 points)
X-men = 8 or more members (5 points)
Five New Mutants (10 points)
D&D = Regularly (5 points)
“Temple of Elemental Evil” mean anything to you? (10 points)
Paint a three-quarter inch die-cast model of a half-elf (HALF ELF BARD WOO!) (10 points)

Star Wars action figure collection:

Han Solo x 3 (1 point)
C3P0 (1 point)
C3P0 with Removable Limbs (5 points)
Hammerhead (THEY'RE FUCKING ITHORIANS GODDAMNIT!) (5 points)

Set up in Room:

a chemistry set (5 points)
a strategic wargame battle mat (5 points)

Star Trek (original series) (5 points)
Battlestar Galactica (original series) (5 points)
Max Headroom (5 points)
Dr. Who (10 points)
Monty Python’s Flying Circus (10 points)
Dungeons & Dragons Saturday morning cartoon (15 points)
NOVA (15 points)

Super Bonus Extra Credit: If asked, in 1988, could you have explained why the number 42 is funny?

Yes (I'm gonna give myself half on this, cause my dad read Hitchiker's Guide to me when I was 6. So that's 1990. But I was 6) (5 points)

All this brings my grand total to 144.

And the range I fall into is pretty accurate. There are a few things that I can out geek anyone at, but for the most part, I can just hold my own on a lot of things.

This quiz could definitely stand to be expanded to include more modern geekeries and things like Magic the Gathering.
