@ABoyNamedArt Re: Darfur.
No action is taken in Darfur because China has economic interests in Sudan, and any country would be foolish to upset the Chinese.
But what if you could do something? What would it be? Sanctions? Protest? Kick them out of the UN Human Rights Commission? Tell them they can play in the Olympics? Visa restrictions? Embargos? A U2 concert in London?
Would that really stop the killings? And ethnic cleansing?
Or how about sending troops back with massive force to defend Darfur people, while political negotiations take place to either bring those responsible to justice or simply separate the two regions (like Kosovo and Serbia)?
Darcy: aha! thought the Chinese still held the cards there. That said, I'd prefer Electric Six and Kinky to U2, thanks.
I'm just astonished that none of you have actually heard this phrase before..
@ABoyNamedArt:
Yeah, so how come I rarely see people protesting the Chinese consulate in San Francisco? There's a protest planned for MySpace in downtown SF - a pro-Nader protest. I dont understand this city.
I'm still waiting for socially conscious teeny-bopper star to do some event. Like Hannah Montana or something.
@beccah:
Oh I heard the phrase before and I detest that phrase to no end. It's witty humor masquerading as a useful maxim. It makes people think the military and soldiers are inherently evil, when really it is an instrument that can be
Indeed, I think we're inclined to think anything that is witty or rhymes has to be true.

A witty slogan makes not a sound policy.
Based on this witty poster, I guess we should not use force to stop genocide in Darfur, Sudan? Or maybe, the calls for launching airstrikes to save Srebrenica when about to be overun by Serb forces, who slaughtered thousands of civilians? And the list goes on?
Sorry for the sarcasm, but you can bomb for peace. South Korea is free (compared to North Korea) because US and Korean soldiers killed and spilled blood. You can use violence to stop violence, e.g. like a police using force to capture and arrest a serial rapist and so on.
