could someone tell me an anti-virus program that I can buy and only have to pay for ONCE (no monthly subscriptions, fuck that shit)?

Free antivirus software:
http://www.avast.com/ (I use this)
http://free.avg.com/ (I don't really like this one)

I'm sure there are others, but these are what I have used.

Completely free:

http://www.clamwin.com/

Note that it's *just* a virus scanner. It doesn't do all those fancy things that the pay ones do. On the bright side, that means it doesn't slow your computer to a crawl like the fancy pay ones do.

Go with what Corey said. Clamav is designed primarily to be run on mail servers, not desktops.

I use avast and windows firewall. Haven't had an issue in YEARS.

Avast has 7 different scan services that you can configure and enable/disable. (p2p, mail, web, standard, etc)

Also, it doesn't hog your resources.

cool.
I'm using Avira right now and it's making things real slow.

I shall try Avast instead.
