So I went to see Predator at the cinema tonight.

Incidentally I have listed it as mostly satisfying only because the projection being a useless cunt fucked up not once but twice, meaning first a full stop of the film early on and then later a temporary loss of picture.
It's fun when theaters play older movies like that. Happens in Portland a lot.
It has some great photography. Libi may hate me for saying this but I think John McTiernan is or was a bit of a Herzog fan.
@Superion : This is at a little independent cinema off Leicester Square that I'm a member of. It's cheap as cinemas go nowadays, especially for members. They have a season of double bills lined up of which Alien/Predator was the first. Others I might go see are All About Eve/The Apartment and Rear Window/Psycho. I'm really excited, probably more than I should be, at the prospect of Ghostbusters / Gremlins in October.
You can find a lot of older stuff if you look for it in London. I'll start keeping an eye out again once I move back.
I like the sound of Portland.
While I usually have a fascistic desire for absolute silence and solitude in the cinema it was actually quite good fun watching a film I know really well with a bunch of people applauding and laughing at certain lines.
In Portland, the theaters that would play Predator will also allow you to get a pint and pizza.
However, I would not turn down a chance to do damn near anything in London, even if they do not have beer with it.
@ the way i get by: Damn good to see you Dutch.
(I'm assuming you were quoting and not just expressing jealous rage)
@ Superion : You can have beer at the Prince Charles Cinema, they have a bar. You could probably sneak in your own. Food too. They're pretty lax, not that I've tested them.
You do realise pretty much any leisure activity in Britain involves beer don't you? Especially in London. Of course it's rarely good beer, but you can't have everything. Not here anyway.
Incidentally, talk of Alien reminds me that Ridley Scott was supposed to be coming in to where I work last week to view some art. Not sure if it happened or not.
Actually, I didn't know that. We have almost evolved to having a bar at the cinema, but not quite.
mctiernan is a herzog fan, i think. though i think there are few who aren't.
also, the rear window/psycho double bill would not be nearly as much fun as a rear window/marnie double bill.
and, there is a bar at... yeah, every indie cinema i frequent. but since the one i'm at most often is about three blocks from new belgium, it would be silly for them to not have a bar.
@ L : Yeah Rear Window / Psycho doesn't fit great for me either. I think they've been limited by what they can get a hold of. On the cinema's facebook page there is talk of a The Thing/Escape From New York double but apparently Escape From New York is hard to find.
Rope / The Trouble With Harry might work. Maybe Spellbound/Vertigo.

I would have also seen Alien (Director's Cut) but I got the start time mixed up and missed that.
