I'll be voting for Obama.

Everything I've seen has shown me that McCain changed some of his policies and (in my opinion) did so to win republican votes. Because of this he has lost any trust I had in him.

I feel like I can trust Obama more. He gives me hope that he willing to do what it takes to make changes in this country.

@ss - thanks!

A couple of other reasons from the 2004 republican platform:

"Our President and our Party strongly oppose the Kyoto Protocol and similar mandatory carbon emissions controls that harm economic growth and destroy American jobs."

"We also support the President’s efforts to double the amount spent on abstinence-only education and to promote healthy relationships."

"We strongly support President Bush’s call for a Constitutional amendment that fully protects marriage, and we believe that neither federal nor state judges nor bureaucrats should force states to recognize other living arrangements as equivalent to
marriage. We believe, and the social science confirms, that the well-being of children is best accomplished in the environment of the home, nurtured by their mother and father anchored by the bonds of marriage. We further believe that legal recognition and the accompanying benefits afforded couples should be preserved for that unique and special union of one man and one woman which has historically been called marriage."

ok, trying not to sound mean...  the only sound reason i can of for someone to vote McCain is if they think Roe v Wade should be repealed and that's the most important issue facing us today.  on every other issue anyone could be legitimately interested in, McCain's platform is sheer nonsense.  plus, the man is clearly a reactionary idiot, precisely not the type of person you want in charge.

oh yeah, i guess another sound reason to vote McCain is if you meet McCain's qualifications for being rich ("more than $5 million"), and want to get even richer.  i discount this reason because it's inherently despicable.

on the other side, this year (at last) there are good reasons to vote for the democratic candidate instead of just against the republican.  Obama's shown integrity, leadership, and even some courage.  with a democratic-majority congress, he might actually be able to accomplish stuff like starting to fix the health care crisis, improve the educational system, and invest some real research into alternative energy.

not voting looks better every day, but i will quite obviously be voting for Obama.

basically, even though I don't put the guy on the kind of pedestal that his other supporters put him on, I don't think he'll be as bad as the other guy.

Obama FTW.

American really can't handle the pressure of 'more of the same' politics.

Barack Obama, because he seems like the change we actually need as opposed to the change that will ultimately make things worse. I'm eager to see who is running mate is. If he hasn't already announced...if he did, where the eff is my text message?!

Obama, for everything that beejus said, and more.

Also.

i just stopped dating this dude who is voting for McCain. Why's he voting for him? "Honor," he would say. He thought that over 5 years as a POW makes you qualified to be the president. He also said that he thinks McCain would be a better PROTECTOR OF OUR LAAAAAAAAAAANDS AGAINST TURRRURRIST ATTACK. ok, sure, that's all fine and well, but (and i told this to him several times): there are things facing the people of this country that are much more pressing than terrorist attacks. for example, my girl friend and i walked home last night from the bar. there was a much better chance that we would get mugged, raped, kidnapped, or otherwise assaulted than there was of an iranian missle landing on our heads, and that ain't because of bush's protecting our lands. won't be because of mccain either.

i trust obama to protect my personal freedoms and forward the women's movement and progressivism in general. so that's why i'm voting for him.

plus he doesn't have a lisp. god help us if we have another president with a goddamn lisp.

le_sacre said, (137 days ago)

is there any evidence in the slightest that McCain would do a better job protecting us from terrorists?  that's what people said about Bush and the only thing he's done is make us less safe by exploding the whole region with anti-american sentiment, while neglecting afghanistan.  and McCain's platform is basically Bush's plus occasionally saying "gates of hell."
