A sample of syllabus

Goals: I aim, as much as I am able, to teach you to read Latin.

Whatever you want – to learn to read Latin, to fulfil a language requirement, or a grade – I can help; I just need you to work with me. Give me some communication and effort.

Attendance: Come to class. Departmental policy is that more than 4 unexcused absences make a failing grade, but more than that: class really sucks when no one shows up.

Participation: Answer questions when asked. Right or wrong matters little, but to exercise skills is the nature of pedagogy. For the same reason, ask questions if you have them.

Homework: I assign lots of homework. It is graded on completion, but I will correct it thoroughly. So please, use every other line and print clearly. Type, if you wish. I can accept homework via e-mail (no attachments).

Quizzes: Weekly vocabulary quizzes with some sentences for translation.

Tests: There are three review exams and a final.

Aw, man, for a second I thought you'd written "quizzies." [Insert "testies" joke here].

I think "quizzies" every time I write "quizzes" too.
