People without dishwashers, help me pick a dish rack. I had no idea there were so many options!

I've always had a dishwasher, but my new apartment doesn't have one, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to manage hand-washing and not completely losing the limited counter space that I have. I don't want it to be ugly... I don't know. I didn't think that something so silly would have so many options, which makes me think that there must be a reason for so many options, which means that some must be better than other which means that I AM STILL STRESSED ABOUT MOVING AND MAKING DECISIONS STRESSES ME OUT!

here's one that is supposed to be compact.

I have a tiny kitchen. Washing dishes by hand sucks.

That being said, you could probably get away with the cheapest rack at Target/Walmart. Just store it under the sink when you're not drying dishes. Too small a dishrack will actually lengthen the time you spend doing the dishes, as you have to stop more frequently to empty it to fit more in. Also, I advise against metal, due to the possibility of corrosion. Just my opinion though.

If I had to pick one of the ones you've already listed, I like the rubbermaid ones.

I like this one a lot, I think...

It's not available for 2-6 weeks, but I think I could PROBABLY deal for that long.

I definitely don't want something that will be TOO small. UGH.

What I really WANT is a dishwasher, but OH WELL.

Yeah...when I got my dishrack I was buying millions of things for my first all by myself apartment and I just got a cheap white rubbermaid one from Target. It does the job fine. I prop it up on its side while not in use.

Another option: Set dishes to dry on dish towels. (I only do this when I have massive amounts of dishes and glasses to dry.)

I did the dishtowel thing at my old house when we had too many to go in the dishwasher, or just felt like hand drying. I think I'm feeling more particular because I'm not at all excited about having to hand wash dishes, so if I HAVE to do it, I want to feel happy about it. Does that make sense?

Well, damn. I have a Simple Human one, and evidently they don't sell it anymore. It's a lot like the compact one Bizzy linked to above. Man, I wish mine had the neato glass holders on the side! Those look useful.

Moose Elaine said, (147 days ago)

Oh, my point was that I love the Simple Human stuff. Pretty AND functional.

I like the Simple Human one that Bizzy posted. It seems really similar to that last Target one that I found. I would LOVE to be able to get one at Target because I have a gift card, and getting one for free would be lovely. BUT... if I can get a fairly inexpensive, nice, non-Target one, that works too.

Also, I'm sort of considering getting some of those ridiculously cheesy dish washing gloves that have ruffles on them. JUST BECAUSE.

Sometimes they have Simple Human stuff at Target. Go and look at your neighborhood store!

They always have SH stuff at Blood, Bath and Beyonce, so take your 20% coupon and head on down.

My sister is getting married and is registered for all this stuff, and I wish she would just register for some super fancy dish rack and then RE-GIFT it to me.

I hate being poor :(

The 20% off coupon is a good idea. They will take those at Linens'n'Things, too... sooooo, even more options! (I worked at LNT in high school, and they totally take competitor's coupons. JUST FYI.)

I just want to feel fancy while I wash the dishes! Perhaps I should just put on lots of jewelry instead...

erica said, (147 days ago)

Oh dear, please do not spend that much on a dishrack. NOT WORTH IT.

strangerbox said, (147 days ago)

my dishrack came with my apartment. score!

emily said, (147 days ago)

@erica: I won't... but I do think that owning that dish rack would make me feel more glamorous on a day-to-day basis. And maybe that means that its designer did his or her job well. I'm setting a $50 cap, and really, that seems pretty extreme. I thought that they'd be like $20 max for the nicest ones.
