Defensive = When The Truth (about yourself) Hurts
Replies
when The Truth (TM) about yourself is presented as an attack on your character, people have a right to get defensive.
also, i get defensive far more often over perceived slights aimed at the people i care about than i do for myself.
I don't generally get offended if I find the item of contention to be true... the one thing that I do get defensive about though is when people like to call me (here, really) batshit crazy.. as I'm not.. I'm extremely high functioning for someone who would be deemed legally insane.. (and I'm not deemed as such...). Other than that, say whatever..
I'm more likely, like C&M to take up someone elses cause.
Hmm. I never really thought about it that way, but it makes perfect sense.
But what if what someone thinks is "the truth about you" isn't actually true/valid and you need to explain why? Does that still qualify as being defensive?
that's just somehting people say when you get defensive about something that may or may not be necessarily true
in other words, justification of a personal attack
Andrew, I'm curious to know where you stand on this... Come out come out wherever you are!
@Bizzy: I generally think that yes, we get defensive about things we secretly believe are true defects in ourselves. That said, endsummer and c&m make solid points.

yes? no? and don't say maybe. maybe is a cop out.
