Hey, Coolidge, swell
in a joyful yell!
For a good thing
even I won't begrudge the words.
Blush from my praise
as red as our flag
Even though you may be
the Unitened States of
Amerika.
...whatever, I give up on the rest. Sigh sigh sigh. Y'all should learn Russian so you can appreciate Mayakovsky's and Brodsky's cleverness and wit.
No amount of language acquisition will enable the appreciation of art and wit.
@oimoi: It usually doesn't hurt, though.
@Salomea: I think people should learn Portuguese to read Pessoa and Sá-Carneiro. But it's never going to happen.

I hate that my favorite poems are in a language most people will never read and their translation is... not remotely close to the original.
